Destiny 2 is approaching its last year of content starting with The Final Shape. Cries of doom might seem like a broken record to many. However, it is essential for Bungie to deliver now more than ever before. Recently, Other games, like Diablo 4, were released to high praise and garnered a considerable following. “Season of the Deep” brought intriguing updates to the lore, albeit a little late. Yet, many dropped the game upon the seasonal story’s completion. Sadly, “Solstice of Heroes” does not offer much to retrieve them.

“Bonfire Bash” is the premiere activity for Solstice of Heroes. Guardians must defeat powerful foes to increase the size of their bonfire for better rewards. This activity takes place in the European Aerial Zone(EAZ).

The EAZ is a fantastic zone, one that had long legs to stand when first introduced years ago. However, it has remained almost the same each year, even with the recent introduction of Bonfire Bash last year. Bonfire Bash itself remains relatively the same. Bungie announced their plans to increase enemy density and created new buffs for the activity. Yet, there is nothing new or exciting enough to chase outside of a few cosmetics and a new Strand Rocket Launcher.

Seasonal events often come during the downtime of a season. They offer a chance to break up the monotony with merriment and fun. However, they have remained stale throughout the years including Solstice of Heroes. Solstice offers a rewarding grind for high-stat armor, yet many players have already accomplished this including myself. Once you have a solid loadout of armor, you rarely need more for most players outside of transmog.

Hell at the Gates

Furthermore, this comes at a conflicting time with other Titans in the industry. Diablo IV launched at the same time as “Season of the Deep” with the former retaining a much stronger debut. Now, Diablo IV returns with the launch of its “Season of the Malignant” during the first week of Solstice. Many conversations have revolved around these two live-service games.

People find the Destiny team lacks care for the title as of late, especially seeing top developers being transitioned to the Marathon team. Meanwhile, the Diablo team continues to garner praise for their product and community interaction. They seem to be capitalizing on the current landscape and thrive because of it.

Solstice of Heroes might be dead on arrival in 2023. Fans will have to keep their eyes up for The Final Shape showcase next month.
