Tears of the Kingdom Life Hacks

Tears of the Kingdom currently dominates the online discourse. Link’s latest adventure jam packs hundreds of new enemies, abilities, and side quests. As such, there’s gonna be a bunch of life hacks throughout the game. Here’s some we’ve found so far.

You Can Break Flux Constructs Apart

High in the sky, cubes walk around. These cubes centralize around a Main Cube, and become Flux Constructs. That main cube, of course, is its weak point. When the core takes enough damage, the cubes will disassemble and clutter to the ground. That’s when you lay into it. As it reforms, it takes a different form until you bash the core enough again.

Or, if you’re impatient, just grab the core or other blocks. Use Link’s Ultrahand on the main cube and pull it with the right stick until it comes loose and launches into the air, collapsing the rest of the Construct. Likewise, you can keep pulling apart cubes until it destabilizes and falls apart without needing any damage done to it.

These tricks let you, the player, dictate the pace of the fight. Don’t cower to the cube man, knock the cube man down to you.

You Can Throw Materials

Admittedly, we didn’t realize this tip until we found its related shrine. You don’t need to connect a resource to an item to hurl it at an enemy. If you hold the up button while holding the throw button (R), you can pick a resource to toss. It helps you fight long distance when you’re out of arrows and keeps you from wasting a weapon.

Think Outside of the Box

Tears of the Kingdom rewards creativity. Instead of using immediate solutions, try your fourth or fifth one. Fortunately, Link’s new abilities let you do so. Speed up your climb with Ascend. Use  Ascend lets you shoot straight up into a flat surface and come out on its other side. The surface doesn’t need to be paper thin, but it can’t be at an angle.

Recall and Ultrahand also help your flight launches. Use Ultrahand to move your vehicle to a mid-air position, put it down, hop on, and Recall it to its mid-air spot. You’ll get a better launch time.

Many shrines and temple solutions revolve around your abilities. Use them to the best of your abilities.

Help Addison Stabilize His Signs

You know that guy running around Hyrule holding up the signs for his President? He’s Addison, and don’t laugh at his plight. Save that for the Koroks.

Addison gets stuck holding up these signs unless they’re reinforced. Each sign should be close to a set of building materials. Use those to make sure the sign doesn’t tip over when Addison lets go. Once it’s supported, tell Addison to let go, watch the sign stand upright, and talk to him again until he gets it set back to the ground.

Many of the signs have built in holes for building blocks, so use them to your advantage. Our best general life hack with building is simple: build your base first, and then put the remaining supports perpendicular to the base.

As thanks, he’ll give you 20 rupees, a cooked meal, and a special third thing. The third thing varies, but it varies between great resource like a gem or a special item like a free inn ticket.

Get Elemental Weapons with Fused Jewels

Magic Scepters and Staves seem useless at first. That is until you Fuse it. Each gem (Ruby, Sapphire, etc.) gives the staff elemental balls much like Breath of the Wild’s Comet Staff did.

Same goes for bow and arrows. You can fuse an item to an arrow mid-draw. Attaching various elemental based items like fruit give elemental buffs. Food isn’t just for cooking in Tears of the Kingdom, but jewels still provide the greatest benefits.

Need help finding gems? Look for shiny slabs in caves, Eldin (Goron area), beat Talus’ in the world (giant stone beasts that Bokoblin’s can perch on), and most importantly, chests.
