Pokémon Battle Team Setup: Treasures Of Ruin

After a little break, we are again back with Pokémon Battles Teams. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been out long enough that we are getting some pro-action and rental team codes floating around. I decided to do a nice and easy Doubles Battle Team this time that VCG provides for you. This Pokémon team is labeled as Treasures of Ruin.

Team Characteristics

Our first Pokémon Doubles Battle Team isn’t too difficult to use. One of the best things I like about this team they put together is the fact it can be used offensively or defensively. The choice will depend on what team you are battling against. If you want to be hyper offensive you will be able to, but if you need that nice slow defensive approach you can as well. We have Pokémon like Iron Hands, Gyarados, Chi-Yu, and Flutter Mane that can dish out the pain as offensive threats. For our defensive options, we can utilize Gyarados’ Intimidate ability to drop a foe’s attack stat. Assault Vest is a very useful item in battle and we get the new Pokémon Ting-Lu’s ability.

Amoonguss is our tank for the team and is always fun to use. You just got to pick and choose your spots and decide which battle style to use. You will have a plethora of options when selecting your team for battle. With these 6 Pokémon, there will be plenty of lines of play throughout the match providing a unique and fun experience.

Amoonguss

Kicking off our battle team is none other than the Grass/Poison-type Amoonguss. We have a male Amoongus who plays the role of support and tank for this team. Amoonguss has the Regenerator Pokémon ability which restores 33% of the Pokémon’s maximum HP upon switching out. You can see how that will be very useful. Our Amoonguss is holding the Mental Herb item which allows him to shake off move-binding effects once. When it comes to the stats the best ones here are the Hit Points and Special Defense stat. One of the most fun tanks in the game.

The moves Amoonguss has are Clear Smog, Spore, Rage Powder, and Pollen Puff. Clear Smog inflicts damage and resets all stat levels of the target to 0. Spore is a utility move that will put the target to sleep (if it can be put to sleep). Rage Powder is another utility style of move that will make opposing Pokémon aim only at the user. Pollen Puff is a great move in that if it targets an opposing Pokémon it deals damage, but if it targets an ally it heals them. Amoonguss is versatile and a great addition to this team. His weaknesses are Fire, Ice, Flying, and Psychic-type Pokémon.

Chi-Yu

The second Pokémon on our team is the Legendary Fire/Dark-type Chi-Yu. Since its Legendary Chi-Yu is genderless and usually works well when partnered up with Flutter Mane. They can make a very deadly offensive duo.  Chi-Yu has an ability called Beads of Ruin which decreases the Special Defense stat of all Pokémon on the field other than the Pokémon with this Ability by 25%. The item Chi-Yu is holding is the Choice Scarf which boosts the Pokémon’s Speed by 50% but only allows the use of the first move selected. The effect resets when the holder is swapped out of battle. Special Attack and Speed are the 2 best stats for Chi-Yu.

Dark Pulse, Snarl, Heat Wave, and Overheat are the moves Chi-Yu knows. Dark Pulse is an attacking move that may cause the target to flinch. Snarl is a move that lowers the Sp. Atk stats of opposing Pokémon. Heat Wave is an attacking move that may leave that opposing Pokémon with a burn. Overheat is a very strong Fire attack that harshly lowers the user’s Special Attack stat. Chi-Yu is weak to Water, Fighting, Ground, and Rock-type Pokémon.

Flutter Mane

Next up we have the Ghost/Fairy-type Flutter Mane. Flutter Mane is the Paradox version of the Pokémon Misdreavus. As mentioned above it works well with Chi-Yu. The Pokémon is genderless and has the ability of Photosynthesis. This ability allows the Flutter Mane to restore its Hit Points which the amount varies based on the weather. Focus Sash is the item they went with here, if the Pokémon has full HP and is hit with a move that should knock it out, it will survive with 1 HP. Only works once per battle though. Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed are the best stats here.

Flutter Mane should have Dazzling Gleam, Shadow Ball, Trick Room, and Protect. Dazzling Gleam is a Fairy-type attacking move. Shadow Ball is a good attack that may lower the target’s Special Defense stat. Trick Room is an interesting move as I’ve mentioned for previous teams’ which allows slower Pokémon get to move first for five turns and the faster ones last. Protect is a great support move that makes the user immune to most damage for one turn, but if used in succession it may fail. Ghost and Steel-type Pokémon are the weakness of our Flutter Mane.

Gyarados

The next Pokémon on our team is the Water/Flying-type Gyarados. Our Gyarados is a female one with the ability Intimidate which will lower opposing Pokémons Attack stat. This is very good if we need to be a bit defensive. They decided for Gyarados to utilize the Lum Berry item which will be able to cure any status condition the Pokémon may have. She is one of the Pokémon we like to use for its Terra Type which is the new thing in Scarlet and Violet. Attack and Speed are the 2 best stats here, especially its Speed when combined with Dragon Dance.

Waterfall, Tera Blast, Dragon Dance, and Protect are the Pokémon moves she has. Waterfall is an attacking move that may cause the target to flinch. Tera Blast is an attacking move that if the user has Terastallized, will unleash the energy of its Tera Type. This move inflicts damage using the Attack or Special Attack stat depending on which stat is higher. Dragon Dance is a utility move that boosts the user’s Attack and Speed stat. Protect is as you know a great support move that makes the user immune to most damage for one turn, but if used in succession it may fail. Gyarados is weak to Rock, but super weak to Electric-type Pokémon.

Iron Hands

Next up on the team is the Fighting/Electric-type Iron Hands. Iron Hands is the Paradox version of Haariyama and is genderless. Safety Goggles are the item held here and protect the holder from both sandstorm/hail damage and the effects of powders and spores. Iron Hands has the Quark Drive ability which boosts the Pokémon’s most proficient stat on Electric Terrain or if the Pokémon is holding Booster Energy. A new ability unique to Scarlet and Violet so far. I’m sure it’s obvious, but anytime we can utilize stat increases to our favor is great. Hit Points, Attack, and Defense are the best stats for this Iron Hands.

Fake Out, Drain Punch, Wild Charge, and Protect are the moves Iron Hands knows. Fake Out is a normal attack that hits first and makes the target flinch. It works only on the first turn each time the user enters the battle. Drain Punch is an attacking move that restores up to half the damage taken by the target. Wild Charge is a strong Electric attack that also damages the user a little bit. Protect is the support move that makes the user immune to most damage for a turn, but if used in succession, it can fail. This Pokémon is weak to Water and Rock, but super weak to Ground-type Pokémon.

Ting-Lu

The last Pokémon on our team is the Legendary Dark/Ground-type Ting-Lu. Ting-Lu is genderless and a very strong offensive Pokémon. The ability it has is Vessel of Ruin which lowers the Special Attack stats of all Pokémon except itself by 25%, which is another unique to Scarlet and Violet ability. He is holding the Assault Vest which boosts the holder’s Special Defense stat but prevents the use of status moves. All our moves are attacking moves, so it works really well for us. Hit Points, Attack, and Defense are the highest stats here.

Stomping Tantrum, Heavy Slam, Ruination, and Fissure are the Pokémon moves he has. Stomping Tantrum is an attacking move in which the power is doubled if the user’s previous move failed. Heavy Slam is another attacking move that the more the user outweighs the target, the greater the move’s power. Ruination deals damage equal to 50% of the target’s remaining health but always deals at least 1 damage. The last move Fissure is a super strong attack that if it hits it one-hit KOs the target. Ting-Lu is weak to Fighting, Bug, Water, Grass, Ice, and Fairy-type Pokémon.

Wrap-Up

We started off these games nice and simple. This Doubles Battle Pokémon team has a lot of versatility. You can use Chi-Yu with Flutter Mane to dish out major damage. You got some moves and abilities that lower the stats of other Pokémon. Amoonguss can put opponents to sleep and allow you to take advantage of it. A big thing in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the brand-new Terra-type addition. You get to take advantage of this with Gyarados and others. These games show a lot of promise for many unique and fun team strategies and we will continue to bring them to you.
