Microsoft and Meta to create the “Metaverse Standards “

The reality of the “Metaverse” is becoming a reality. As reported by Arstechnica, Microsoft, Adobe, Nvidia as well as Meta themselves have joined forces to help bring this concept to reality.

Details on the Metaverse Collaboration

The Metaverse has been talked about by Meta for a while. But it seems as though the company is serious about getting the ball rolling. By creating the “Metaverse Standards Forum”. In their announcement they stated the following:

The Forum will explore where the lack of interoperability is holding back metaverse deployment and how the work of Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) defining and evolving needed standards may be coordinated and accelerated.

What is interesting, however, is that other tech giant companies such as Apple and Google have yet to join them. Despite Apple having their own upcoming AR headsets. CEO Tim Cook stated in an earnings call:

We’re always exploring new and emerging technologies… Right now, we have over 14,000 AR kit apps in the App Store, which provide incredible AR experiences for millions of people today. We see a lot of potential in this space and are investing accordingly.”

From the report of Arstechnica, there is no direct statement from Google about the Metaverse at this time. But both companies are free to join in the future once this thing takes a cohesive form.
