Genshin Impact, once pegged as nothing more than a Zelda clone, seems to have taken the world by storm. The game finally released on Monday and has certainly hit the ground running, seemingly out of nowhere.

Success On A Global Scale

According to the South China Morning Post, the game has grossed more than China’s TikTok and has surpassed the number of views Fortnite had during its launch day on Twitch. In the initial hours of launch, Genshin Impact raked in more than 110,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch.

What’s perhaps is most impressive, Genshin Impact’s recent success isn’t exclusive to China. In fact, the game has found traction on a worldwide scale. The game marks the biggest international launch of a Chinese game in history, according to industry experts. A foreseeable success, if you take into account, prior to launch, the game had 21 million people pre-register on the game’s website. A staggering 16 million of which in China, while the international audience totaled 5.3 million.

Responding to how the game has done as of late, Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games said:

I don’t think any Chinese-made game has ever had that many pre-registrations outside its home market. So just by the scale of people interested early on, Genshin Impact is a big title already. Genshin Impact is surely ambitious, and I believe if it takes off in the first several days and weeks, the developer might have a super hit on their hands in the long run. 

Genshin Impact is a free-to-play, open-world game. Which gives players control of magic-wielding warriors in a post-apocalyptic setting. Reviews of the game from players seem quite positive so far, and our own site echoes those same feelings.

Released on September 28th, Genshin Impact is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch.
