Intel 12th Gen Alder Lake-S 8 Core CPU Benchmark Leaks – Shows Marginal Improvement Paired With RTX 2080

A new leak from Geekbench shows what kind of performance we might expect from Intel’s upcoming 12th gen (Alder Lake-S) CPUs.

A new sample of the Alder Lake lineup, one with 8 BIG cores, was spotted on the benchmarking site paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080. The listing on the website shows proof of the new platform that Alder Lake will debut with, complete with DDR5 RAM and LGA1700 support.

This particular chip seems to have 8 big cores only, which Videocardz suggests is exclusive to the desktop platform. It looks like Intel’s shift in architecture for Alder Lake might prove to be quite a substantial one for performance gains. On Geekbench, when tested in the OpenCL benchmark paired with an RTX 2080, the system scored 108068, which is slightly higher than the average of 106101 points for that GPU. Bear in mind that this number comes with an early engineering sample of the CPU, and not what consumers will get their hands on when it finally launches later this year.

We’ve already seen reports of Intel’s 12th gen CPUs returning around 20% IPC gain, and the lineup is expected to give some tough competition to AMD’s Zen 4. But with the more immediate Rocket Lake in our sights, it’ll be some time before we see Alder Lake striking against AMD’s Ryzen CPUs.
