Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in Development on CBS All Access

There’s another Star Trek series in the making – fans, it’s time to rejoice! CBS All Access is all about to get a new series focusing on everyone’s favourite characters – Captain Christopher Pike, Number One and Science Officer Spock.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set in the decade before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise. It follows the characters as they explore new worlds all over the galaxy.

Actors Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck who acted as Pike, Number One and Spock in Star Trek: Discovery’s second season will reprise the roles again in this series. Additionally, the producers of Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard – Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet are behind the development of the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds comes after CBS All Access brought back the franchise to TV with Discovery in 2017 and then Picard this year.

However, there definitely was a hint of the new series in Discovery. That series saw Captain Pike and Spock join the cast only to leave the Discovery and return to the Enterprise.

“This is a dream come true, literally,” Goldsman said in a statement. “I have imagined myself on the bridge of the Enterprise since the early 1970s. I’m honored to be a part of this continuing journey along with Alex, [executive producer] Henry [Alonso Myers] and the fine folks at CBS.”

CBS All Access has been all about greenlighting several Star Wars projects, creating their own small empire. The credit goes to Alex Kurtzman, who is seen as the architect behind creating this universe.

Other shows that are in the works are Star Trek: Lower Decks, which is the first animated Star Trek series for All Access and a Section 31-based series focusing on Michelle Yeoh’s Philippa Georgiou.

Streaming services like Disney and WarnerMedia, and now Viacom CBS, is really focusing on pushing out movies and TV shows based on its biggest IP franchises. The never-ending slate of shows is a probably a way for CBS All Access to grow. Star Trek is one of the biggest attractions for CBS. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will reportedly be followed by other Star Trek-themed shows, a lot of which are already in development.

However, the company is yet to confirm when Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will release on the platform. But considering how productions across the world have shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is safe to assume that it will be quite some time before we get to see it on air.
