Amazon Studio’s Free-to-play PvP Shooter ‘Crucible’ Releases May 20

If the name Crucible doesn’t ring any bells, we don’t blame you. This is Amazon Game Studios’ first upcoming AAA title, and no, it’s not a new announcement. The game has been in works for more than 4 years now, originally announced way back at TwitchCon 2016, followed with nothing but radio silence.

The gameplay trailer gives us an overview of the PvP shooter:

This upcoming AAA title from Amazon is a free-to-play team-based action shooter where your gameplay is defined by the choices you make. Pick a hunter and join a match. You’ll need to coordinate with your teammates, take advantage of your hunter’s unique upgrades as you level up, and adapt to the ever-changing conditions of battle.

It releases this May 20 on Steam. Wishlist the game to be notified on launch.

About Crucible

The closest description of what Crucible feels like is a third-person version of Overwatch meeting Evolve, the now-dead asymmetrical monster hunting PvP game from 2K.

Consisting of soldiers, criminals and rogue agents; each of Crucible‘s 10 hunters comes with their own unique set of abilities, letting people enjoy the game in their playstyle.

Game Modes

Heart of The Hives:

A PvEvP mode which pits both the teams against each other as well as large hive monsters. Each hive contains a heart, and the first team to snag three wins the game.

Alpha Hunter:

Two squads of eight players race to earn 100 points by holding control of Essence Harvesters

Harvester Command:

A mini-battle royale for eight pairs of hunters. Last duo standing wins.

It’s the first AAA title from Amazon, which also plans to release another major title this August, the long-awaited MMO New World. The company is also working on a cloud gaming platform called Project Tempo that could compete with Google Stadia, GeForce Now and Project xCloud.
