Massive The Last of Us Part 2 Leaks Surface Online

[Note: The following article contains mild spoilers for The Last of Us Part II. We haven’t included any of the actual leaked materials, but reporting on them will inadvertently have some information that Sony did not intend to release. Please read at your own discretion.]

If you’ve been waiting for The Last of Us Part 2, you’ll probably want to stay away from forums for now. Tons of previously unseen gameplay footage and cutscenes have surfaced online which contain massive spoilers.

These started with, supposedly, a frustrated developer uploading multiple footages from a test/near-final build.

The entire channel was quickly taken down by Sony, within an hour. But that small time-frame was enough for people to get their hands on the footage and re-upload it everywhere possible.

The leaked gameplay shows the technical capabilities of Naughty Dog in animation, which we last saw in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Notice how fluidly Ellie’s arms sway around while turning. The drawer opening sequence apparently uses a procedural animation system just like Red Dead Redemption II. (Also keep in mind that this is not the final build, and they might’ve worked on it further)

Firstly, the main menu screen from the game was posted on Twitter, which seemingly doesn’t mention the title of the game but is real, according to some sources:

Many fans have expressed their disdain over the leak. A lot of people regard the first game as one of the best single player experiences of all-time, and have since been waiting for the past 7 years to see where Naughty Dog takes the story of Joel and Ellie.

Fans disappointed over the leak

If you’re too desperate to watch the footage and don’t mind the spoilers, people have been reuploading them in various forms over different places. You can find some of them below:

  • Video 1
  • Video 2
  • Video 3

Also, as you must’ve noticed in the playlist, a clip of the Multiplayer mode, Factions, was also leaked. The video has since been taken down, but here’s a screenshot from the clip:

Naughty Dog previously said that The Last of Us 2 will solely be a single player experience, with the online mode releasing later as a separate package. Seemingly, that is already in-works, and I would say that it might now possibly release along with TLoU 2, due to the indefinite delay.

The Last of Us Part II is an action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was initially set to release this May 29, but was then delayed without a further date due to logitics issues due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
