How to Fix When Discord Is Sending Messages Twice on Desktop and Mobile

Find that whenever you try to hit the Tap to resend the message and it ends up sending the message twice (or even thrice)?

It’s really annoying.

Despite numerous times having all my messages in Discord get duplicated twice and appear like a doofus, I can safely say the reasons why this issue happens and what can be done to prevent it from ever happening again.

In this guide, I’ll show you how to fix when Discord is sending double messages.

Let’s jump in.

How to Fix Discord Sending Messages Twice: 5 Ways

1. Check Discord’s Status.

First things first, before you do anything, have a quick check at Discord’s server status.

More often than not, a server or two could be down from Discord’s internal end which may cause the messages you try to send to be double-post.

If it is not resolved now, then it should be resolved in a few hours as the engineers could be working on it.

2. Poor Internet Connection?

Many Discord users have reported that a poor internet connection may be one of the main reasons why Discord could act up.

This happens since it’s retrying to post because the first message that you may have sent had trouble getting through.

So make sure to check your internet connection, ensuring that the internet is working properly and is on the right setup — 3G, 4G, LTE, 5G.

If you’re using an iOS, iPadOS or Android device, simply go into your Settings > Wi-Fi or Cellular to re-establish the connection. Likewise, if you’re on a Windows PC or a Mac, simply disconnect from the Wi-Fi and try reconnecting once again. You may also choose to connect to a different Wi-Fi hotspot to identify if the internet connection is the issue.

3. Changing Discord Server Region

One other solution that has worked at times is to change the region for the discord server.

This works by refreshing the connection between you and the person you’re talking/messaging with which will ensure that the messages you send do in fact get sent.

If you’re on the US west server try the east server (vice versa). If you’re in the Singapore Server try the Japan Server (vice versa). Then proceed to talk/message with the chat.

Take note, as mentioned by Discord:

The closer your physical location to a server, the lower latency you have. Lower latency is a good thing, because it means higher quality connection. Luckily, Discord gives you the option to choose from a handful of separate locations based on where you are.

If you do not know how to change your Discord server, here’s how:

  1. Jump into your Discord and then hop onto your Server settings by clicking on the hamburger icon (as shown below).

  1. Next, in the dropdown menu box, click on Server Settings.

  1. Now click on the Overview tab.

  1. Then under Server Region, click on the Change icon.

  1. Now, select the server region that you want to connect to. Remember, make sure to choose a server that is physically located nearest to you. This is also helpful if we’re experiencing a server region outage; You can hop to the next closest region and continue your regularly scheduled voice chat as is.

If the new server doesn’t work then you may try switching back to your original server. This too will in a way establish a new connection where it can fix the issues of having double messages being sent.

4. Wait Out for Discord’s Team to Fix It.

If none of the methods above work, then all that is left to be done is to wait for Discord’s dev team to work out the bug and release a patch in the coming days.

You may also use any of the below two ways to reach out to Discord’s support to notify them about the bug, which should raise some awareness of the bug:

  1. Join the Discord Testers server (https://discord.gg/discord-testers).

  1. Send an email to Discord’s support  ([email protected]).

5. Using Discord’s In-App Support Ticket System.

Lastly, if none of the above methods work in trying to reach out to Discord’s team, you may also use the in-app support ticket system (https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/requests/new). From the drop-down box, simply choose Help & Support and then enter the issue details regarding Discord sending double messages.
