Films With Lucknow Connect: Part II

Film shoots will become a common sight in the city, who would’ve thought this was possible? But with all that the city has to offer, it is no surprise that Lucknow is on top in every director’s shooting locations.

What makes Lucknow a Film favourite?

While the past is all about rich and richer, the present is starkly different. Laid back but filled with young exuberance, the city is perfect blend of these contradictions, a perfect example of Ganga-Jamuni tenzeeb. The city is extraordinary in its ordinary.

Gadar- Ek Prem Katha(2001)

The city was transformed into Lahore for the Film. Remember the iconic handpump that Sunny Deol removed? That handpump was actually installed at La Martiniere Boys College.

Ishaqzaade – The Turning Point

This 2012 film presented Lucknow like any other where the bygone era is simply mentioned in conversations. The film went beyond your standard shooting locations exploring picturesque Gomatinagar, Mahanagar, and other new areas.

In the next four years, more than fifty big and small films were Shot in the city. Tanu weds Manu franchise, Bullet Raja, Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl, Dedh Ishqiya, Dawat-e-Ishq were some of them. Lucknow became the new, cheaper and desi Switzerland, film crews flew in just to shoot that one romantic song here.

The face of the city- Ayushmann and Rajkummar

Ayushmann Khurana and Rajkummar Rao have each shot for five films in the city and every film has done good business at the box office. It doesn’t matter which city the story is based in, the city is always Lucknow. Call it Mathura, Bareilly, Patna or Kanpur it is always the Lucknow cityscape.

Article 15, Bala, Bareily ki Barfi, Behan Hogi Teri, Jolly LLB 2, Raid, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana were all shot within a year’s time in the city.

Upcoming Projects

Gulabo Sitabo featuring Amitabh Bachhan and Ayushmann Khurana will release on June 12. The film is shot entirely in Lucknow. Sanya Malhotra will resume the shooting of Pagalait, Kiara Advani for Indu Ki Jawani, and Ashutosh Rana for Lakeerein will return to the city too.
