SafeHomeCARES: Peace of Mind for Our Veterans

This is the fourth of a series of posts about Safe Home Safe’s CSR by Jake Murray, Vice President of Operations and leader of our employee-driven SafeHomeCARES initiative. Follow along our journey of building stronger communities.

At the beginning of the year, we asked our employees what causes they cared about. Showing love to our military ranked high on the list. Aside from sincere appreciation and respect, some of us have loved ones who have served or are currently serving — which compelled us to take action and show our gratitude.

Offering Peace of mind is in our DNA at Safe Home Safe. For National Military Appreciation Month, we wanted to share this passion with the brave men and women sacrificing their lives to protect us and our freedom.

And by ‘protecting,’ we’re not talking about home security systems. I’m referring to securing a place to live, employment, and mental wellness — and the peace of mind that comes with it all. This was made possible through a new alliance between SafeHomeCARES and an incredible nonprofit.

Operation Stand Down RI

On May 14, we joined in unity with others from the community at a charity golf 3 organized by Operation Stand Down RI.

Operation Stand Down RI was founded in 1993, and has since become the state’s primary nonprofit resource for homeless and at-risk veterans. Here’s what they offer to our nation’s heroes:

  • Assistance to secure stable housing
  • Care management
  • Referrals
  • Education
  • Employment services

On the golf course from our team were James Tomaselli, Todd Souza, Tim Perpall, and Matthew Bailey. Out of dozens of teams, we placed second (not bragging or anything).

But more importantly, we’re proud to have sponsored and participated in the event. We look forward to our continued relationship with Operation Stand Down RI, and are honored to help make peace of mind a little more attainable for our veterans.

And to the brave men and women of our armed forces — past and present — we owe you an incredible debt of gratitude. Thank you for all that you do for us!

Operation Stand Down RI Up Coming Event

More than 6,000 boots will be placed with a name marker to honor the lives of heroes killed in Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn. OSDRI is looking for donations of military, desert style boots and for local businesses interested in supporting the memorial.
