After many twists and turns during its development and more than eight years after its announcement, Dead Island 2 could finally be on the way to a release. The recent rumors (#1, #2) finally turn out to be true and the game therefore formalizes a release for February 3, 2023. On the occasion of Gamescom, the developers take the opportunity to let go and show us three new videos . First of all there is the trailer of the game with its very pulpy sidethen one gameplay video filled with cinematics, but where we still glimpse some interesting sequences.

While smashing zombies with homemade melee weapons sounded exciting in 2014, two episodes of Dying Light and a slew of games later, thermofrag is struggling to take off. In a third video, our colleagues from IGN were able to get their hands on the game for 20 minutes and say that Dead Island 2 is very similar to the first episode, but also to the two Dying Light games. Our fellow journalist still notes an emphasis on unbridled violence with gore everywhere and blood on the walls. If there is also a lot of work done on elemental damage – you almost think you are hearing about an Immersive-sim, these are mechanics that were already present in the first Dead Island.

Well at least this time, unlike the disappointing Dying Light 2, it does look like there are guns. Let’s also hope that the Dambuster studio *cough* the 3rd to work on the project *cough* will not reproduce the same error as Techland and will offer an experience that does not go all over the place while missing, in passing, almost all the aspects of its gameplay.
