Unity has cut many jobs and laid off hundreds of employees. That reported kotaku with reference to internal sources in the company. According to Unity, around 4% of the workforce will be affected.

Layoffs at Unity

As the US magazine reports, all of Unity’s global locations and departments are said to be affected by the wave of layoffs. However, there are said to have been a particularly large number of job cuts in the AI ​​and development departments. In the anonymous tech forum, Unity employees blindly speak of around 300-400 layoffs.

According to Kotaku, between 3,300 and 5,000 employees worked at Unity before the wave of layoffs. Meanwhile, the insider reports have also been confirmed by Unity. In a statement, the company said the layoffs would affect around 4% of employees, i.e. around 130 to 200 people.

Has Unity Busted?

The wave of layoffs follows a shopping spree last year. In 2021, for example, the digital effects studio Weta was taken over for 1.62 billion US dollars. Founded by Peter Jackson, among others, the company is best known for its work on The Lord of the Rings and Avatar. It also acquired Parsec, a cloud gaming software developer, for $320 million.

As Kotaku reports in relation to internal sources, CEO and ex-EA boss John Riccitello emphasized at a group-wide digital meeting two weeks ago that Unity was not in a difficult financial situation and that no layoffs were imminent.
