How to Recover Hotmail Account

Hotmail (Windows Live Hotmail) is one of the most popular free online email services, owned and administrated by Microsoft. You can access it from any web browser anywhere in the world with an internet connection as Hotmail is a Webmail service. All you just need a username and password to access the Hotmail Account anytime and anywhere.

What happened to Hotmail?

Windows Live Hotmail service was renamed to Outlook.com In 2012. Since then whenever users try to reach www.hotmail.com URL they redirects users to the main sign in page for all Microsoft accounts, including Store, OneDrive, MSN, Skype, Outlook.com and others.

The Brief History of Hotmail

Hotmail was Founded by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith in 1996 and was the first free web-based email service. Putting emphasis on the “HTML” in the name it was originally spelled HoTMaiL. Later Hotmail owned by Microsoft in 1997. And then, Microsoft revamped Hotmail and renamed the service as Outlook.com In August, 2012.

Hotmail provided free account with features spam filters and virus scanning and up to 250 Mb storage. Later, when the Microsoft owned the Hotmail, users were also provided calendar and save contact list in the address book features. Users could also choose to upgrade their Hotmail Account by paying a subscription fee.

And today, the Outlook.com service provides virtually unlimited storage for free. You can also connect your Hotmail account to Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Google and LinkedIn, mobile access, built-in search and spam filtering. Plus, you can also use Outlook to send and receive Outlook.com email.

How to Create a Hotmail.com Email Account

In order to access Hotmail services you must have a Hotmail account and to have a Hotmail account you will need to create it and to create it:

  1. Open your web-browser and log on to www.outlook.com sign up page and click on the Create Free Account.
  2. Now choose a desired username for your Outlook accountand click on Next if your desired username is available. If not, then click on the drop-down arrow sign to choose a different username and then click on Next button.
  3. Create a password and then re-enter the same password to confirm and then select Next.
  4. On the next screen, you will be prompt to enter your first name and last name, enter them both and click on the Next.
  5. Choose you country and select your birth date on the next page.
  6. Then, enter the characters from the CAPTCHA image and proceed Next.
  7. Now the Hotmail or Outlook set up your account and display a welcome screen.
  8. That’s it! Done. You can now open your Outlook account and set up manually and can also use the email account.

How to Recover your Hotmail or Outlook account if you don’t have access to the security information

You can use Microsoft’s Account Recovery Form If you have forgotten your Microsoft account password and don’t have access to the security information on your account. With the account recovery form tool you can provide additional information to your account so that Microsoft can make sure that you (and only you) gain access to your account.

To successfully recover your account, follow these steps.

Please Note – You won’t be able to use the recovery form, if you’ve turned on two-step verification for your account. Always keep two-step verification turned On as it prevent anyone from signing in without two forms of identification, no matter how much information they know about your account. Before you begin

Keep a working email account ready that you can access the information we send you about your request. You can also use any of your relative or friend’s email account. Or, you can create a temporary outlook.com account if you don’t have another email account that you can access, for free by selecting Create one at the Microsoft account sign-in page.

  • Please Note- The email account you provide will only be used to contact you about your Hotmail account recovery form and won’t be used for any other purpose.

Fill out the recovery form

  1. Primarily, go to account.live.com/acsr and provide the email address, phone number, or username for your account that you are trying to recover.
  2. Provide an alternate email address so Microsoft can use to contact you about your request.
  3. After that, enter the CAPTCHA characters you see on the screen to prove you’re not a robot, then select Next.
  4. Now a screen will pop up asking you to verify the contact email address. Check your alternate email for a message from the Microsoft with the security code; enter that code, then select Verify.

  • Fill as much your account information and details as you can, even if you’re not sure.
  • Once finished, select Submit. Microsoft will respond you within 24 hours.

How to recover a deleted Hotmail account

In case you want your deleted account back, there is a way to get your Hotmail account back.

  1. Go to Hotmail’s Recover your account page.
  2. Enter your email address that you want to recover, and also add an alternative email address to be contacted with, and the characters you see on screen.
  • Please Note – You can only recover an account within the first 30 days of the deletion. Microsoft usually keeps hold of the email address for these 30 days, but the account will be permanently deleted after this period.
  • If you have two-step verification activated on your account, you will have a recovery code sent over to your alternative email account.
  • Enter the code you receive and proceed by clicking Next.
  • Now you can access your Hotmail account.
