Canalys predicts that by 2024, foldables will ship 30 million per year.
According to Canalys’ latest predictions, shipments of flexible display smartphones will expand at a 53 percent annual rate between 2021 and 2024, with sales topping 30 million units in 2024. The growth rate will be around 122 percent from 2019, when the first large Model of this type was introduced, to 2024. Despite high model pricing, sales in the foldable Smartphone market, which is dominated by Samsung, are growing 148 percent year over year in 2021, while the smartphone market as a whole is up only 7%.

Smartphone sales could be boosted by flexible display models, which are particularly appealing to first-time and/or seasoned high-end gadget customers. According to Canalys, Android smartphone makers are under a great deal of pressure in the premium segment, with shipments of new products over $800 down 18% relative to 2019 levels, and sales of iOS models up 68%. Distributors need to raise investment in technology and interfaces to attract and retain the most paying customers.
