MediaTek Kompanio 1380 processor announced for premium Chromebooks
MediaTek, a company best known for producing mid-range and low-cost chips, is now attempting to break into the premium market and has revamped its chipset lineup to compete with market leaders like Qualcomm.
The Taiwanese company not only makes smartphone chips, but also chips for tablets, smart TVs, routers, and other devices. Now, the company has announced the MediaTek Kompanio 1380, a new chip for premium Chromebooks.
4x Arm Cortex-A78 big cores running at up to 3GHz and 4x Arm Cortex-A55 efficiency cores running at up to 2GHz make up the CPU. The Arm-Mali G57 GPU is a down grade from the Mali-G77 MC9 found in the 1300T. A MediaTek APU 3.0, up to 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM, and support for eMMC, UFS 3.1, and NVMe storage are among the other features of the new chip.
