Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and 7c+ Gen 3 Chipsets: Everything You Need to Know
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from Qualcomm is the first 5nm chipset for Windows on ARM laptops. When compared to the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 provides an 85 percent increase in multi-core performance and a 60% increase in GPU performance.
The CPU cores included are unknown, but this chipset is the world’s first 5nm process-based Windows on ARM laptop. Its forerunners used a 7nm manufacturing process. The company has upgraded its NPU to have 29 TOPS, which is three times more than previous chipsets. Qualcomm has worked on lowering power consumption, claiming that it can now be used in laptops without fans.
The advanced modems on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chipset are just one of the many improvements. A Snapdragon X65 modem with a downlink speed of up to 10 Gbps has been made available by the company. The local connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E.
The chipset is said to support multiple cameras and includes features such as AI-accelerated echo cancellation and noise suppression.The chipset can simultaneously share the front and back cameras during an online presentation in the office or at school.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 is a 6nm processor designed for low-cost laptops. It has better performance than the 7c Gen 2 because the CPU performance is increased by 60% and the GPU performance is increased by 70%. The chipset’s NPU has 6.5 TOPS of AI compute power, which is an improvement over the predecessor’s NPU’s 5 TOPS.
The Snapdragon X53 modem can deliver up to 3.7 Gbps downlink speed, which is one of the connectivity options. It has a downlink speed of up to 2.9 Gbps for Wi-Fi 6E.
The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and 7c+ Gen 3 laptops will be available in the first half of 2022, according to Qualcomm.
