DUBAI:Head coach Mickey Arthur has said his love for Pakistan cricket started with the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Chatting with Geo.tv here on Monday, Arthur — who is also the head coach for PSL franchise Karachi Kings — termed theT20 cricket league a fantastic competition.
Arthur commented that the PSL had produced some great talent in the past and that he was hopeful of finding more this season as well.
“This tournament is fantastic; I said that in year one and this is where I started my love affair with Pakistan cricket.
"The tournament is outstanding, the talent is outstanding, it allows the players to perform under pressure on a big stage so I’m pretty sure that we will get another name coming out that we can tap into,” he said.
The competition, he noted, was so good “that it always throws out somebody for us".
"I’m certainly going to keep my eyes peeled and really looking forward to finding more talent from this season,” Karachi Kings coach said, adding that the PSL was a good opportunity for Pakistani players who were coming from a tough international series and ahead of important tours in near future.
Arthur further mentioned that there may be someone from the PSL who could earn a ticket to thesquad for the World Cup.
“If somebody in this competition really performs [well], there might be a jack in the pack that we can use and I hope this tournament produces one,” he said.
Talking about the PSL's standard, he said he rated it incredibly high because of the players participating in the league. “Pakistan has been producing some really talented cricketers.
"This is one of the strongest leagues in the world without a doubt,” he said.
Arthur was optimistic about his team’s chances in the tournament but did not discredit other teams either, saying they were all in it to win the trophy.
“I hope (to winthe title) but there are five other franchises around as well, so we will see. We will have to be at our best on our match day,” he said.
