How to proofread documents with Gemini in Google Docs

Elevate your writing with the Proofread feature in Google Docs. Polish your document to perfection before sharing it, ensuring professionalism and clarity.

Proofread provides comprehensive feedback beyond basic grammar and spelling. It analyzes word choice, active voice usage, conciseness, and sentence structure, offering insightful suggestions to enhance your writing.

Step 1: Access Proofread

Open your document. Click “Proofread this document” in the toolbar.

Alternatively, you can access Proofread document option from the tools menu. Once the panel is open, it presents a series of suggestions for improving your document.

Step 2: Review and implement suggestions

The Proofread panel displays each suggestion for your consideration. Each suggestion can be either approved or dismissed. To implement a suggested change, choose ‘Accept suggestion’. If you prefer to keep the original text, opt for ‘Dismiss suggestion’.

Proofread allows you to concentrate on specific areas of improvement by filtering suggestions based on the issue category (e.g., grammar, style). This feature enables a focused and systematic approach to enhancing your document.

Step 3: Customize Proofread settings

The proofread settings menu allows you to manage the aspects that Proofread reviews.

By default, all checks are activated. However, you have the flexibility to deselect any options as per your preference.

Note: Changes to Proofread settings apply to all your documents.

Proofread remains active even when the panel is closed. If Proofread identifies any issues in your writing, a blue dot will appear on the icon, indicating that suggestions are available for review. This feature ensures that your document is always at its best, ready to make a positive impression.
