Fix Windows Firewall Settings Makes Your Device Unsafe Error

Windows Firewall is a component or program in a Windows system to protect the operating system. It might bother you when you see the pop-up notifications on the screen saying Windows Firewall settings make your device unsafe. How is it even possible? Windows Action Center generates the pop-up notification, and it indicates that the firewall is turned off. It will only turn on when the firewall settings are changed. Restoring to default doesn’t resolve the issue, and the problem persists.

The issue occurs not only by the changed settings but there are some other reasons like Windows Updates or installation of third-party Antivirus. The third party protection software creates their own firewall consequently the user starts receiving the pop-up notification error. In that case, you need to turn off your Firewall and the Windows security Center Notifications. If you are facing the same notification, then follow the steps mentioned below.

Here are the ways to fix the Windows firewall settings make your device unsafe error

Restart Firewall service
  1. Press Windows Key + R to open the Run
  2. Type msc and press Enter.
  3. Now, select Restart.
  4. Right-click on Windows Firewall entry in the Window.
  5. Now, click Properties from the menu.
  6. If it is Startup type, then select Automatic.
Use Windows Registry Editor
  1. Press Windows Key + R to open the Run
  2. Now, type regedit press Enter to open Windows Registry.
  3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/BFE
  4. Select BFE and right click to open the menu.
  5. Select Permissions.
  6. Click ADD and then type Everyone.
  7. Click OK. You have created an entry.
  8. Now, Click the Everyone
  9. Under the Permissions for Everyone, check Full Control.
  10. Now, restart your Computer.
Resetting the Windows Firewall
  1. Search Firewall in your Windows Search.
  2. Click to open Windows Defender Firewall.
  3. Click Restore defaults from the left pane of the window.
  4. Again, click Restore Defaults to confirm.

You can restore the default through the control panel. Open your Command Prompt in the Administrative account. Now, type the following command netsh firewall set opmode=ENABLE exceptions=enable. Now hit enter.

Uninstall Security Updates

Sometimes, the problem arises just after the security updates. In that case, uninstalling the updates is a way to resolve the error.

  1. Press Windows Key + I from your keyboard.
  2. Click Update & Security.
  3. Move to View installed update history and select Uninstall
  4. Select Security updates and right click to uninstall it.
  5. Click Uninstall.

The error may occur due to some reasons, but you can fix it with these methods and steps mentioned above. Remember, you must restart your computer after making changes in the settings.
