What is Android? and some interesting facts about Android.

Andriod brought the big evolutionary change not only in the world of mobile phones but Android is also taken unachievable place in SmartWatches and Televisions. With the entry of Android, Mobile phones became smarter and today we call every android device as a smart (SmartPhone, Smart TV, SmartWatch, etc.). To learn more about Android and its some interesting facts read this article till the end.
In 2004, Android has started its journey as an Operating system for the Digital Cameras, but the Android for Digital Camera's was never released instead the exact same Operating System developed for the camera was released for mobile phones with minor changes. At that time peoples were using Symbian (java based) phones in which peoples used to install .jar packages as applications and games for the mobile phones. At that time there is no any powerful platform for mobile phones was developed. Due to this .jar applications has very limited access to the device hardware and app developers have a big challenge to develop the app which can work with any type of hardware and operating system. Apple had introduced the world's first mobile-based Operating system called iOS in 2007 today it is second large Operating System in the world.
Android was founded by Andy Robin, Nick Siears, and Rich Miner in 2004, They were worked for Google after selling the Android to Google.
Considering the need of the market, in 2005 Google bought the Android from Andy Rubin his team by paying around $50Million USD. As I told you in my last post, Microsoft developed the standard software platform by developing Windows Operating System for Personal Computers and today Microsoft Windows is the giant Operating System for Personal Computers. The same kind of game is played by Google in 2005 and today Google's Android is world's most used Operating system for SmartPhones. Microsoft also developed windows phones in 2010 but it was a big failure for Microsoft and Microsoft finally killed Windows Phone in 2017.
Android is Linux based Operating System and it uses Linux kernel for device drivers and other support.

Why Microsoft's Windows failed but Google's android survived?

The main reason behind Windows phone's failure is performance and lack of applications in the store. Microsoft has a big advantage of its Windows branding and huge demand in the market for computers but Microsoft failed to provide the features and performance stability to their customers. While Android used to release newer version frequently with tons of new features and performance fixes.
Another big reason behind windows phone's failure is lack of applications. Android has Google Adsense which is one of the world's largest advertising platform, Google attracted the developers by paying a huge amount of money by using their applications for targetted advertising. But Microsoft failed to attract the developers to develop the applications for Windows phone. Software limitations are another reason that's why software developers ran away from Windows phone.

Android is free for all?

Technically, it is difficult to answer this question, but I have tried to answer this question in this post (why and how Android and Linux are free and Windows is paid operating system).
Actually, Google is using your browsing and social data to earn money by showing you targetted advertisements. Google is collecting the user's data by providing free products like Google Chrome, Android, Gmail, Youtube, etc. and according to the user's browsing habits, different ads are shown to the user. Fortunately, all these details are accessed by bots and not by humans.
Windows is not only failed competitor for Android, but Firefox OS, Samsung's Tizen OS, BlackBerry OS, etc. are also failed in front of android.
