Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector Review

Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector

When it comes to projectors, people usually think of the big box projectors that requires 2 people to carry it. Well, it’s 2018 and everything now comes in small packages. Obviously, projector technology has come a long way. We are now in an era where you can fit one right in your pocket. Anker claims this to be the “worlds most advanced pocket cinema” and we are here to take a hard look at The Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector.

Most people overlook what a pocket projector can do. I’m here to tell you that it actually has a place in our lives, especially when you travel a lot. Having your very own screen entertainment in your pocket is something to be celebrated.

Your Very Own Pocket Cinema

Design

The Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector has a very unique design. It has a dimension of 67.8 x 119.8mm which is roughly the size and shape of a soda can. The structure of the device offers 360 degrees speakers which is one of the most amazing features of this product.

As the product stands, the top portion has a series of controls. It includes the power, volume up/down, and the switch for speaker mode. On the side is the focus dial, and on the front is the projector lens. The bottom has a tripod screw mount. Also, It has an HDMI port so you can connect a laptop or video game console, but it can also work as a standalone device.

Furthermore, there is a micro-USB port on the side for charging the device. It has no USB-A port but Anker includes an OTG adapter in the box to fix this issue. With this, you can still watch movies directly from your flash drive plugged into the Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector. Sadly, there is no headphone jack which would have been perfect for this device.

Performance

Given its size, don’t expect anything perfect from its display. The Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector is rated at 500 Standard Lumens/100 ANSI Lumens, which seems to be about average for projectors this size. The resolution maxes out at 854×480 pixels which are not very good. Not to worry, sit the device not more than 10 feet away from the wall and you should be fine. However, if you like testing its limits, it can produce a massive 100-inch screen to your liking.

Battery

Battery life on the Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector is fantastic. It’s built with a 5200mah battery that is enough to project movies for 4 hours. There’s not a lot of pocket projectors out there who can finish 2 movies before needing to be charged.

When it comes to charging, the capsule does not disappoint. Anker equipped it with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 to charge faster than other pocket projectors. In addition, it includes a Quick Charge 3.0 charging adapter inside the box for your convenience. Buying an extra quick charge adapter can be a pain, especially if you consider the extra cost you have to incur.

Software

The Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector runs on a modified Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The primary configuration settings such as HDMI, File Manager, App manager, and Network settings are found on the top row. On the bottom part of the screen, you will find your list of apps installed inside the capsule.

This device is perfect for streaming Netflix, Youtube, and other streaming services. Obviously, to be able to use this features, you will need to connect the capsule to a wifi. However, you can download some movies of videos inside the capsule, as it has a storage capacity of 8GB.

To be able to interact with the interface, the Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector comes with a remote controller of its own. It has a very sleek design with all the essential buttons and a mouse button. The mouse button, when clicked, displays a cursor on the screen for easier navigation when you’re using a phone app.

Speaking of the phone app, Anker provides an alternative in case you lose or damage your controller. The Anker Nebula Capsule can be controlled by an application available in the PlayStore called Capsule Control. This application turns your smartphone into a trackpad that mimics a mouse function to control the interface of the capsule.

Sounds

The speaker is surprisingly loud and can fill up an entire small room easily. The entire bottom half of the capsule houses the omnidirectional speaker that allows it to have this massive volume. Safe to say, it is more than enough for casual watching of movies or presentations without causing any problems.

The Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector can also function as a stand-alone Bluetooth speaker. Supporting Bluetooth 4.1, it can easily pair up with any devices whether its Android or Ios Devices. In this mode, the capsule can run for around 30 hours before needing to be charged again. This feature is great for traveling especially with its portability.

Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector Review

Rating of 8.0 out of 10

Sound quality is the most compelling feature of this product. Compared to other pocket projectors, the Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector gets so loud you won’t need another set of speakers. What’s disappointing is the lack of a headphone jack in case you want to quietly watch something.

The portability and the form factor is also amazing. It’s not the smallest pocket projector you can find, but the size is decent. Its form is very unique, which I like, that gives the projector instant height and a nice angle for projection. This can literally substitute a monitor or a television especially when you’re traveling. You can also use this for gaming where you won’t even need to carry your very own screen.

Another disappointing part of the device is the lack of a USB-A port. This means you will not be able to plug in a Flash drive or stream from a ChromeCast while plugged into an outlet. This is a huge deal for something with limited battery life.

Having said all that, this is still one of the best pocket projectors you can find in the market right now. It might be a little expensive, but it has a good overall function. I would still recommend this to anyone who wants to have their very own pocket projector. You can purchase the Anker Nebula Capsule Mini Projector at Amazon.com.
