How To Install Android 11 On Google Pixel Devices?

The first developer’s preview of Android 11 is here, and the Pixel devices are the first to try the latest version of Google’s Android. If you have a Pixel 2, 2 XL, Pixel 3, 3 XL, Pixel 3a, 3rd XL or a Pixel 4, 4 XL and you want to try Android 11 (Android R) right now, don’t wait any longer. We tell you the steps to follow.

Only Manually Update Is Possible

Right now, Android Beta Program is not enabled publicly. The website that allows us to sign up to receive the OTA of Android 11 will not arrive until next May. Now we are facing an alpha version, therefore we have to manually install its factory image. It means that all data will be erased, so we have to back up our smartphone before.

To get started, the user has to unlock the bootloader and Enable Usb Debugging. Also, one has to connect the mobile to the computer with ADB.

Enable USB Debugging

The USB debugging is enabled in Settings> System> Developer. If you do not find the “Options for developers” you will have to activate them by pressing several times in a row on “Build number” that we will find in “Settings> Phone information“.

Download Android Platform-tools

Platform-tools is a set of tools that allow us to interact and modify our mobile through a command window or command prompt. you can download it from the official Google Platform-tools site. You will have to unzip the ZIP file once downloaded.

Unblock Bootloader

To unlock the bootloader you have to connect your Pixel to the computer via USB. Then a command window executes the following command from the Platform-tools folder:

adb reboot bootloader

fastboot flashing unlock

Using the volume keys we have to select “Unlock the bootloader” and confirm by pressing the power button

Install Android 11 On Your Pixel

With the bootloader unlocked and Android USB debugging activated, you just have to follow these simple steps to install Android 11.

  1. Download the factory image of Android 11 Developer Preview corresponding to your device and unzip the ZIP file.
  2. Open the unzipped folder and copy all the files in the Platform-tools folder.
  3. Run flash-all.bat if we are on Windows, or flash-all.sh if we are on Linux or Mac.

After a few minutes of waiting Android 11 will already be installed on your Pixel. The device will restart after finishing the process. Remember that all data is deleted.
