Canonical announce 6th LTS release of Ubuntu’s version 16.04

[April 21,2016]

Today, on 21 April Canonical unveils Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. It’s last release was 15.10 Wily Werewolf on october 22, 2015. Ubuntu 15.10 as an operating system for Review was pretty lackluster. This recent version 16.04 reviews are expected lot of positive reviews. It will be known as Xenial Xerus name. Mark Shuttleworth (Founder of Canonical) says :

” The leading cloud-based operations and the most advanced robotics run largely on Ubuntu, and this new release is the basis for the next wave of their innovation “

” The security mechanisms in Snap packages allow for much faster iteration across all versions of Ubuntu and Ubuntu derivatives, as snap applications are isolated from the rest of the system. Users can install a snap without having to worry whether it will have an impact on their other apps or their system. Similarly, developers have a much better handle on the update cycle as they can decide to bundle specific versions of a library with their app. Operationally, transactional updates make deployments of snap packages more robust and reliable” He also said

” We are proud to serve the needs of the enterprise, and research, and millions of personal and non-profit users, with one single shared free software platform.”

Their are some main highlights in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS :

  • “Snaps” – a new robust, secure app format.
  • The introduction of ZFS and CephFS for large-scale cloud storage.
  • Support for IBM Z and LinuxONE systems with flat pricing.
  • The introduction of LXD pure-container hypervisor with OpenStack Mitaka.
  • Steps made towards converged Ubuntu across IoT, phone, desktop and server.

Their are many other feature in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Also, when user want to upgrade newer version then he/she can upgrade it very easily by typing in terminal
