Keep in mind that there are specific heirlooms which could only be acquired through the participating in Wintergrasp PvP zone and purchase them with the Stone Keeper’s Shard.

Heirloom Armor in Wrath Classic

When you wear and get an armor piece, you would get +10% bonus XP to the character that you are using. Keep in mind that in WotLK, there are only two gear slots, shoulders and chest heirlooms that are available. There are two different shoulders for each type – PvE content currency and one from PvP content.
