3 Retro Games We Love to This Day

If you think back to how you used to spend your time as a kid, was gaming involved? Let’s face it; gaming has been part of our culture for decades now, whether that is the classic board games, card games, or video games. It’s been a source of entertainment, fun, and enjoyment for kids and spills right into adulthood. Just because you’re getting older, doesn’t mean your love of Retro Games ends; in fact, it may be something you embrace even tighter.

So, are you curious to know if there are other adults just like you who also love Retro games to this day? The answer is a resounding “yes”, and we can take it a step further by taking a closer look at some of the most-loved retro games.

Pokémon Card Game

Does it get more classic and beloved than the Pokémon card game? It wasn’t just popular when it first came out, it still reigns as the best-selling card game ever. It has sold more than 29 billion cards to date with no signs of stopping. If you have kids, there’s a good chance they have gotten into Pokémon as well. You can find authentic cards online, which makes ordering Pokémon cards easy, allowing you to continue to build that childhood collection even today.

The card game was of course originally launched back in 1996 by The Pokémon TCG (Trading Card Game). It is a partnership between Media Factory and Nintendo’s Pokémon and is filled with intriguing characters with all kinds of powers. If you attend any sort of retro game conference, you’re bound to find plenty of collectors and traders on hand.

You have many options to buy them. They are many sold in three ways Theme Decks, Boosters Boxes (containing 20 Booster Packs) & individual Booster Packs (5 random cards). People often tend to buy Booster Boxes because in this option there is a high chance of getting rare and ultra-rare cards.

Tetris

While it may not be the first one that comes to mind, the fact is that you are likely familiar with the game of Tetris if you played video games as a kid. First developed by Russian software engineer Alexey Pajitnov, this one was first released in 1984 and has managed to stay relevant and fun through all the years. Sure, it’s a video game, but it’s one that challenges your mind and puzzle-solving abilities. To say it is addicting can sound like an understatement. Because of its simple rules and skillset requirements, Tetris is considered one of the greatest video games at an early age. According to Wikipedia, It has sold 202 million copies – approximately 70 million physical units and 132 million paid mobile game downloads – as of December 2011.

Tetris has been also included in several research studies by scientists many times. This includes Vladimir Pokhilko’s first clinical psychologist experiments.

Tetris is also used in the theory of computation, algorithmic theory, cognitive psychology, and thermodynamics of nanoparticles.

Today it’s going through a bit of a revamp and you can now find Tetris Effect available on PS4. It was released a few years ago and in 2018 it was named one of the “best video games of 2018” despite the fact it’s not actually “new” at all.

Monopoly

When it comes to board games, one game, in particular, is usually quick to pop into people’s minds, and for good reason – the classic game of Monopoly. Originally launched in 1935 from Parkers Brothers in the United States and then Waddington’s in the UK, this game has been around for generations. It was a great game to play with siblings, parents, and friends as a kid, and it continues to be popular today. The game itself is named after an economic topic of monopoly. The original game derived from The Landlord’s Game created by Lizzie Magie in the United States in 1903.

Monopoly has been a huge success that has been licensed over 103 countries and used in 37 different international languages.

Thanks to its ever-lasting popularity today, you’ll find all different versions of the game outside of the classic game board. There have been fun little features, bells and whistles, new game pieces, and even tweaks of the game board over the years, all helping to build a new generation of people who love the game. There have even been video game versions of the board game, as it has a real mark in history and pop culture. Hasbro conducts a world championship of the game. The recent World Championship took place in September 2015 in Macau where Italian Nicolò Falcone defeated the defending world champion and players from twenty-six other countries. In the tournament, he defeated World Champion Bjorn Halvard Knappskog, USA Representative Brian Valentine, and Japan Grand Champion to win the tournament.

Embrace the Retro Spirit

No matter which of these games may have a special part in your heart, the fact remains that there are many retro games that have managed to really carve out their part in history, and even be passed down through the generations.
