How To Take Screenshot On DRM Protected Images On Android

How to Screenshot DRM Protected Image (Non-Rooted)

As we mentioned above, taking a DRM protected image screenshot on android is not possible. Google has solved this issue with its updates and now there are no apps or solutions to this with the phone. But the user can take the screenshot with their computer. They need ADB and screen mirroring tools to accomplish this. Users can try any screen mirroring tools that allow them to put their android screen on the pc. Before that, we need to use ADB and download the screen mirroring tool.

Install ADB on Windows or Mac

Windows installation of ADB

1. Download the ADB platform tool for Windows from the link.

2. Once the download is complete, extract the file using WinRAR.

3. Now go to the extraction folder where ADB files are

4. Write CMD in the address bar and hit enter

5. A command prompt will open in the ADB directory 

6. Then connect the android device from where you want to take the screenshot to the pc

7. Now execute the “ADB devices” command

8. You will get a pop up in your phone for USB debugging

9. Click on the always allow checkbox and click on the allow button

10. Now you can see the series number of your android phone on your pc. ADB is installed on your PC

Mac Installation of ADB

  1. Open Mac terminal and execute this command [ruby -e “$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)”]
  2. It will install the Homebrew on your mac, now we can install the ADB
  3. Now execute this command “brew cask install android-platform-tools”
  4. Now connect your android phone with Mac
  5. You will get the same pop up as windows, always allows and then click on the allow button
  6. ADB is installed on your Mac

Once the ADB is installed, you can download scrcpy tool and extract the file. Go to the folder and find the scrcpy.exe file and click on it. It will immediately start the mirroring of your phone to the PC screen.

Now open any DRM protected apps on the phone and take the screenshot with tools or just regular Ctrl + Shift + S to take the screenshot. For Mac and Linux, try their dedicated screenshot shortcuts.  

Solve “Can’t Take Screenshot Due to Security Policy” (Rooted method)

For this method, the user’s phone needs to be rooted. With this trick, they don’t need a PC or any other software to take a screenshot, they can do it on their own phone. The user also needs Magisk on their phone to flash the module as well. Let’s begin.

  • Download Smali Patcher from XDA forums. It will create small patches in a few seconds.
  • Once it installed, connect your device to the pc and run ADB devices in command prompt
  • Make sure that your phone is connected with the pc and ADB is running.
  • Now extract the smali file and run SmaliPatcher.exe
  • After that, enable the “Secure Flag” in the checkbox
  • Click on the “ADB Patch” and it will create another zip file.
  • Once that complete, move the files to your android device
  • Flash it as a module on Magisk
  • Now you can take a screenshot from your device
