Look for General Motors to expand the number of right-hand-drive (RHD) vehicles as the company looks to expand into international markets. The automaker is looking to increase the number of RHD models it offers internationally beyond the current C8 Corvette, the only GM Vehicle offered in RHD from the factory, according to a report at GM Authority.

The site’s report quotes unnamed sources as saying that RHD versions of numerous Cadillac EV models are currently being developed, and only involves electric vehicles, not internal combustion engine models.

The site shows RHD Cadillacs that were caught testing earlier this year, as well as Cadillacs being tested down under.

The initiative would reverse GM’s withdraw from international markets following the closure of its Australian Holden division in December 2020, followed by the sale of Germany’s Adam Opel AG and England’s Vauxhall to Stellantis in January 2021. These divisions made the lion’s share of GM’s RHD vehicles.

But the reintroduction of RHD would make GM a true international automaker once again, one less reliant solely on the North American market. Of the world’s largest RHD markets, which are the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. Currently, among those markets, GM’s only presence is in Japan.

GM CEO Mary Barra said in 2022 that the automaker will reenter the European market, focusing on battery electric vehicles, so reintroducing RHD versions of Cadillac Evs would make sense.
