Ford cancels the 2020 Fusion redesign

A few weeks ago it was reported that Ford is looking at the possibility of moving production of the Fusion midsize sedan to China, but now a new report has raised more question about the future of the sedan. A new report claims that Ford has canceled the redesign of the Fusion, which was scheduled for the 2020 model year.

In a letter, obtained by The Detroit News, Ford recently informed suppliers that the redesigned 2020 Fusion has been canceled. Does that mean that the Fusion is going to be discontinued in the near future? That’s not known, but an inside source claims that the Fusion will be part of Ford’s lineup for at least the next three to four years. Ford spokesman Mike Levine also stated that the “Fusion remains an important part of the Ford lineup for years to come with even more new fresh features on the way.”

While it’s not entirely known why the redesign was canceled, if the Fusion is expected to stick around, one source says that Ford likely canceled the redesign since, it “didn’t have the right product or product design to meet demand.”

The future of the Ford Taurus is also being called into question, which could be discontinued after the 2018 model year.
