Why were 03 numbers introduced?

In 2014 Ofcom introduced new range of 03 numbers designed to be used as after-sales customer support line. Ofcom advised that numbers beginning with 084 could no longer be permitted to be used for aftersales services to customer. This is to ensure customers can phone for support using their mobile without paying higher rate for the call.

What are the benefits of the 03 number?

03 numbers give your business a national presence, this is ideal if your business operates across the UK.

03 numbers charge the callers at a local rate; 03 numbers cost the same as 01 and 02 numbers to call and are included within a mobile contracted minutes. Most calls originate from mobile now, so this is an important factor when choosing your number, as most mobile users can call 03 number for free.

But you already have an 084 number, now what?

Don’t panic, we can provide you with your matching 03 number, for example if your number is 0843 289 1234, we can provide you with 0343 289 1234. You can continue to use your 084 number, but you must offer a 03 number for customer service caller. As we provide 084 numbers completely free, you can even close your old 084 line and custom record a message saying your number has now changed to 0343 289 1234.

We hold a good range of memorable 03 numbers at SwitchboardFREE, our range starts with 0333 335 xxxx. This range is particularly memorable and easy for your customer to recall. We also hold all matching 034 and 084 numbers.

03 numbers are a great choice for most companies and are popular in the UK due to the fact mobile callers can call the number for free. We highly recommend having a matching 03 number alongside your current 084 number.
