Facebook may soon ask its users to upload a photo that clearly shows their face to prove that they are not a bot.

To strengthen security for its over 2 billion users, Facebook may soon ask them to upload a photograph that clearly shows their face to prove that they’re not a bot. according to Wired.com on wednesday, the social media giant is employing a new kind of captcha – a type of challenge-response check used in computing to see whether or not the user is human – to verify whether or not a user may be a real person or simply a bot.

A screenshot of the identity check shared on Twitter read: “Please upload a photograph of yourself that clearly shows your face. We’ll check it and then permanently delete it from our servers.” Facebook later confirmed to Wired.com, saying the photo test was supposed to “help USA catch suspicious activity at various points of interaction on the site, as well as making an account, sending Friend requests, setting up ads payments, and making or editing ads”.

A Facebook interpreter was quoted as saying that the photo check is one amongst many strategies, each automatic and manual, used to find suspicious activity. the method is automatic, as well as distinctive suspicious activity and checking the ikon. to determine if the account is authentic, Facebook looks at whether or not the photois unique, the report said.

Further, users were secured out of their accounts while the photo was being verified. A message said: “You Can’t Log In right now. We’ll get in touch with you after we’ve reviewed your photo. You’ll currently be logged out of Facebook as a security precaution.” Facebook users who suspect their account has been compromised will head toFacebook.com/hacked.
