Netflix’s ‘The Punisher’ Is Coming Sooner Than You Think

The Punisher—the latest in Netflix’s line of super-gritty Marvel adaptations—has piqued fans’ curiosity for a while. But it’s also been something of an outlier. The story of vigilante Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) overlaps with those of Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Daredevil, but he’s not really part of the Defenders, or The Defenders. His show got hyped at Comic-Con International, but canceled an appearance at New York Comic Con earlier this month in light of the Las Vegas mass shooting. Netflix had said it was coming in November, but a release date was never confirmed, and given the spotty promotions, would-be viewers began to wonder: What’s up with The Punisher?

Now they know: It’s imminent. A new trailer just dropped for the series (below), revealing that not only is Castle as much of a lone wolf as folks had presumed (Deborah Ann Woll’s Daredevil character Karen Page seems to be the only tie to the larger universe) but his show will be hitting Netflix on November 17.

If you just looked at your calendar murmuring, “Why does that date sound familiar?” you’re not alone. November 17 also happens to be the date that Justice League hits theaters. Will Frank Castle stand a chance against Batman, the Flash, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and Aquaman? Will the JL get punished by the power of the binge-watch? Or will comic book fans just head home and spend time with Frank Castle as they leave the theater? It’s probably the latter, but all will be revealed in just a few short weeks. The wait, Punisher fans, is almost over.
