‘Earthquake Safety Alert’ Feature Launched by Google India

Google has launched its Earthquake Safety Alert system for Android devices in India. The system uses accelerometers in Android smartphones to detect early tremors and estimate the characteristics of earthquakes. This allows Google to send alerts to users in affected areas seconds before shaking begins, giving them time to drop, cover, and hold on.

Google is working with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in India to roll out the Earthquake Safety alert system to all Android users in the country. The system is currently available in English, but Google plans to add support for additional languages in the future.

How to Enable/Turn On Earthquake Safety Alerts on Your Android Device

To enable Earthquake Safety Alerts on your Android device, follow these steps:

  1. Open your phone’s Settings app.
  2. Tap Safety & emergency and then Earthquake Alerts. If you don’t find Safety & emergency, tap Location and then Advanced, and then Earthquake Alerts.
  3. Turn Earthquake alerts on or off.

Once you have enabled Earthquake safety alerts, you will receive alerts whenever an earthquake is detected in your area. The alerts will include information about the magnitude of the earthquake and the estimated time of arrival of the shaking.

Google’s Earthquake safety alert system is a valuable tool that can help to save lives. By enabling Earthquake safety alerts on your Android device, you can receive early warning of earthquakes in your area and have time to take cover.
