HarmonyOS Can be Installed in Devices With EMUI 11

Yesterday, during the Huawei Developer Conference 2020, the Chinese giant took off the covers on HarmonyOS 2.0, which should land on smartphones in the course of 2021.

There is therefore great curiosity about the potential of the new operating system, but the biggest doubt so far has concerned is the compatibility with the models already in the market. To dispel any doubts, a Huawei executive thought about it, who confirmed to the Android Authority colleagues the possibility of updating existing models.

In particular, the devices that will be updated to Emui 11, the new version of the Huawei interface presented yesterday, can be updated to Harmonyos, in the event that in China they decided to completely change course to abandon Android.

At the moment it is not clear whether all devices updated to EMUI 11 will be able to switch to HarmonyOS or if only some models, perhaps those of a higher range, will be able to enjoy this treatment. There is also no information on whether switching from one system to another is mandatory or whether the choice will be left to end-users.

Huawei has not shown HarmonyOS 2.0 on a smartphone at the moment, so it’s hard to tell if the platform is mature enough or if it needs further refinement to be able to hope to compete with Android. For its part, Huawei demonstrates that it does not want to remain idle in the face of the continuous restrictions imposed by the current US government and is careful to try to be able to continue, at least from a software point of view.
