As the name suggests, the new Planet IGS-10020HPT-U Managed Switch delivers a full-featured networking product in an industrial-grade case. The metal housing has an ingress protection (IP) rating of 30, meaning it protects the internal components from solid objects larger than 2.5 mm. The power over Ethernet (PoE) managed switch operates in temperatures as low as -40 and as high as 75°C or 167°F. The rugged casing also protects against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electrical surges.

The IGS-10020HPT-U operates in harsh environments that exist on factory floors or at external locations, such as traffic management systems. With its eMark certification, the switch can be used in products sold in the European Union, such as surveillance and vehicle systems, without restriction. Redundant Ring Technology
The IGS-10020HPT-U supports redundant ring technology. It leverages the technology to provide rapid self-recovery to prevent extended downtime. With advanced ITU-T G.8032 Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) technology and Spanning Tree Protocol (802.1s MSTP), the managed switch integrates with industrial automation networks for enhanced system reliability.
The series hardens network connectivity with switching recovery capabilities for use in implementing fault-tolerant ring and mesh network architectures. In these configurations, the recovery times can be less than 50 ms, minimizing operational disruption and downtime.
High-Power, High-Speed
Two mini-GBIC slots built into the IGS-10020HPT support triple-speed (100/1000/2500 BASE-X) small form-factor pluggable (SFP) fiber optic modules. Now, administrators can choose the SFP transceiver based on transmission distance and speed. This capability is well-suited for enterprise data centers.
Network applications requiring gigabit transmission speeds demand high-power PoE. PoE technology allows Ethernet cables to carry electrical current and data through a single Ethernet cable. Cybersecurity
While the hardened case protects against external elements, the IGS-10020HPT delivers enhanced security for mission-critical networks. The device supports Secure Shell 2.0 (SSHv2) and Transmission Layer Security (TLSv1.2) protocols for added protection against advanced threats. With dual protocol support, network administrators can construct secure networks in less time and with minimal effort.
Comprehensive Layer 2 to 4 Access Control List (ACL) adds security at the edge. With more devices being deployed at the perimeter, restricting access based on source and destination IP address can reduce the chance of unauthorized access. The product also uses 802.1x port- and MAC-based authentication of user and device. Both authentication methods provide another layer of protection against intrusion attempts.
Network Management
Planet’s Universal Network Management System (UNI-NMS) and CloudViewer app allow IT staff to manage and monitor powered devices remotely. Built-in Surveillance Management
Designed to ease the management of surveillance networks, the Poe Managed Switch offers the following features:
- PD Alive Check: Monitor the connection status of PDs in real time. The switch sends out pings to each device in a rotating sequence. If a device fails to respond, the unit recycles the PoE port power to bring the device back online. The keep-alive feature lessens the administrative burden of network management.
- Scheduled Power Recycling: Rebooting PoE cameras and wireless access points at scheduled times increases reliability. Instead of waiting until an IP camera or access point crashes, administrators can schedule a reboot for off-peak hours, reducing the chance of a device failure due to buffer overflow.
- PoE Scheduling: Save power and help the world. Management staff can regulate power feeding to each PoE port. They determine when power is or isn’t needed on a per-port basis, and the system allocates power accordingly.

Alarms and Alerts
No management system is complete without alert and alarm capabilities. The IGS-10020HPT-U has the following notification features:
- Sends alerts when abnormal behavior is detected using SMTP/SNMP communications.
