Two PIA Aircraft Got Hit by Ground Vehicles in Today’s Storm in Lahore [Pictures]

Due to heavy storm followed by rain in Lahore tonight at least two Pakistan International Airlines aircraft collided with ground equipment on Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore.

Accidents occurred when very strong winds shocked almost everything at the airport and two aircraft landlocked in the road, the body of both aircraft that were parked at Lahore airport was seriously damaged

A PIA spokesman confirmed the incident and said both aircraft were grounded after technical inspection.

According to sources, PIA flight PK654 was ready to fly to Islamabad at Lahore airport, while PK244 – originally flew from Damam to Sialkot – was diverted to Lahore airport due to thunder that hit Punjab on Tuesday night

The weather became severe with gusty wind just before Iftar, followed by light rain in the area.

Sources confirmed to ProPakistani that heavy wind caused an Ambulift (special ambulance designed to move passengers in or out of the aircraft with medical conditions) to get out of hand and to hit the parked PIA plane at a distance.

In another incident, in the same time, a passenger step touched the engine of another aircraft.

Both aircraft have suffered serious damage during the accidents and will not be able to fly without proper repairs.

Photo's obtained by ProPakistani show that both aircraft are no longer airworthy. Photos clearly show that the Ambulift not only damaged the body of the Airbus 320, but also made a considerable hole in the aircraft body.

Passenger step, in another separate incident, hit the front part of the engine of an aircraft.

It is not yet clear whether both vehicles, which hit the aircraft, were driven by some operator or they were just parked at the time of the incident.

It should be mentioned here that PIA at Lahore airport has no facility to repair the aircraft body and a team of engineers will fly from Karachi with damaged parts to repair this aircraft.

According to sources, the repair work will probably take 2 to 3 days, with the PIA flight operation reportedly being hit hard.
