Nokia 2 Now Receiving February Android Security Update

Nokia 2 Now Receiving February Android Security Update
Nokia 2 has started receiving a new software update containing the February security patch for Android. Initially, the new update reportedly would be implemented in India for the TA-1011 model. The update comes days after Google officially released the February Android security patch for compatible Pixel and Nexus devices. HMD Global, the company behind Nokia smartphones, previously released the same security patch for the Nokia 8 and Nokia 3 models.

The latest Android update does not make any noticeable changes to the Nokia 2, although this is the new Android security patch, as reported by people at NokiaPowerUser. The update is 89.3 MB in size and is available as an OTA (over-the-air) release. You can check the availability by going to Settings > Over the telephone > Software updates .

The Android security patch of February on the latest Nokia 2 update contains a solution for a critical vulnerability with respect to Media framework. Google in its recent security bulletin stated that the vulnerability would "enable a remote attacker to use a specially crafted file to execute arbitrary code within the context of a privileged process." The new security patch also corrects some deficiencies at system level, as well as a gap in the gap that allows a "local malicious application to execute commands" that are usually available for privileged processes. There are also several tweaks to solve security problems on the component side, including patches for different Qualcomm components.

Although the new update for the Nokia 2 does not bring a big change to the user experience, HMD Global works separately to bring Android 8.1 Oreo directly to the handset that is currently running Android 7.1 Nougat. HHD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas announced the development of Android 8.1 for the Nokia 2 at the end of last year. The executive also hinted that the Finnish company is planning a number of Android Go memory enhancements to the affordable Nokia model to bring.

The Android Nougat-based Nokia 2 was launched in October last year and has a 5-inch LTPS HD screen (720×1280 pixels) and is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 SoC, coupled with 1 GB RAM. The smartphone has an 8-megapixel camera on the back with an LED flash and a 5-megapixel camera on the front of the camera. It packs a 4000mAh battery that is claimed to provide power for two days on a single charge.
