Dell has really packed a sizable punch for us here. With the Inspiron 15, you get all the CPU power of their 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor, making it a lightning fast spectacular device. Seriously; for this price, that’s got some power to it. For graphics, you’re looking at the Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti, another high-quality piece of this low-budget laptop.

For the physical display, I have to admit it’s not the most appealing. Reminiscent o those toy laptops we’ve all seen our nieces and nephews playing with, the Inspiron 15 has a hinge in the center, leaving space on either side. There’s nothing wrong with this, however, it just doesn’t appeal to the naked eye.

You’re starting with 8GB of RAM here; nothing to bat an eye at. While it can’t play Rise of the Tomb Raider without skipping frames (and that’s on low graphical settings) you can enjoy 75% of what’s up for grabs on the Steam marketplace. Many 2D platform games run with exceptional quality; if you’re an LP YouTuber, you can definitely screen capture your game while playing—no sacrificing FPS here.

Hard drive storage space is limited to 256GB; storage is not an option. It comes as a sacrifice when you get such stable and balanced gaming capabilities. It’s got a good weight to it, coming in at just under six pounds and an inch thick. We greatly admire the backlit keys in orange to go with the standard fire red exterior color.

More technically, this laptop has one of the greatest batteries I’ve ever seen. With 11 hours and 23 minutes of battery, you can game in an internet café all day long without the baristas yelling at you to stop siphoning electricity like a mosquito.

9. HP Omen 15t

Strap in; this is the HP Omen 15’s little brother, and he’s packing so much gaming capability that it’ll make your head spin for under a thousand dollars. Gaming can get expensive, but with HP, you can always expect excellent quality as a reasonable price. It’s a sleek and slender design, as is common with HP products. On the back of the screen, you have the Omen logo in blazing red, which is always super cool, and in this case matches the blood red keyboard backlighting the Omen series of gaming laptops is famous for.

Bang & Olufsen make all the audio equipment and software for HP’s Omen series, and do a fantastic job at it. With sound comparable to Beats by Dre, it definitely gets marked as a huge plus in comparison to other similarly-priced gaming laptops. Sound is as important as brightness quality to me; it’s the brightness of half of the game’s features, and that’s audio. How many times have you cranked up the volume to hear dialogue, then had your ears blown out? It’s a smooth ride all the way with these speakers.

With a 2.8GHz Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and 8GB of ram, it’s similar in gaming capabilities to the Dell Inspiron mentioned above. However, I was able to effectively run Rise of the Tomb Raider on this machine. Their specs are similar, so it tells me that HP devotes the internal specifications to their fullest potential. We’ve got a good amount of heat coming from this machine; it won’t singe your desk, and the battery’s life is substantially lower than the Inspiron coming in at just under six hours.

8. MSI GL62M 7RE-407-best gaming laptop under 800

MSI packs in a wicked punch with their GL model. It isn’t the most powerful in their price range, but it’s still a fantastic deal for the money. With the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti graphics card at the helm, you’re ready for just about anything. High frame rates and medium to high graphic settings are nothing; just watch what this machine can do.

It’s a bulky beast, however, coming in just under ten pounds. We’re not crazy about the fake feel of the chassis; it’s like Playskool plastic. However, if you can get past a few minor details such as that and focus on what’s under the hood, you should be all set.

We’ve achieved 4K display for under a thousand dollars – can I get an amen? The picture on this bad boy is going to blow you out of the water. 3840 x 2160 is the most optimal viewing experience for gamers to date, and the MSI doesn’t disappoint. We’re crazy about the huge amount of ports to accommodate custom controllers and extra devices, too.

Hard drive storage, we hardly knew ye. We’re back in the same old rut of these under $1,000.00 machines; they don’t come with enough storage. Here’s one point the MSI falls short on. There is an empty slot within the chassis for another hard drive, however we’d prefer it come standard.

You’ve got excellent performance here with an Intel Core i5-7300HQ 3.8GHz CPU, sporting 8GB of RAM, optimal for just about any game out there to be played on high quality graphical settings. It definitely comes in a cut above the rest when it comes to performance.

The battery life is laughable at best. When we’re seeing close to 12 hours on the Omen 15t, the MSI doesn’t even have 3. For the most part—and I think you’ll agree with me on this—whenever you sit down and begin to game, you automatically plug your laptop in regardless. If this is your play style, as it is mine (I hate getting that 10% power message minimizing my window) then you’re set on this one.

A bland design. We’ve got an all-black exterior with all-black keys and absolutely no backlighting. Visually, there’s absolutely nothing that sets the MSI apart from most low-class laptops from companies you’ve never heard before.

7. Asus K501UW-AB78

You’ve got an absolutely perfect blending of gaming and standard use here. For the price tag of over eight hundred, this glorious machine can be used for a plethora of purposes. Video editing, streaming, and of course, the reason we’re all here: gaming. Asus popped a Skylake Intel Core it-6500U processor in this baby, right alongside an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M graphics card. Some serous power swinging right out the gate.

You can’t go wrong with a basic silver and black design. While it’s not overly flashy, the Asus logo is presented nicely, and the raised base is always a plus when typing and gaming overall. It comes with a 15.6 inch display, which isn’t the least bit shabby for playing your favorite games in splendid resolution.

We’ve got 8GB of memory, but only 512GB of storage space. While the storage capabilities leave something to be desired, we often find this is the most common issue with searching for gaming-ready laptops in this price range. You’re looking at a better storage slot than some others in this price range, but when you think gaming, you think storage. We’ve reviewed some higher-priced models with as much as 2TB of storage. Imagine what you could do with that.

We have backlighting, people. I’m a huge fan of backlit keyboards, as I think we all are. Gaming at 3AM without waking your roommates has never been easier. We don’t have overly positive or negative things to say about the keyboard and touchpad combination. They both seem standard enough that you can live with them, and not overly extravagant to put as a purchase point.

You’ve got a load of ports thanks to the optimized design. Asus really seems to know what it means to be a gamer, and have done their absolute best attempts at creating a laptop that speaks specifically to us.

6. Razer Blade Stealth RZ09-01962E20-R3U1

Razer dominated our Top 10 list for our gaming laptops without price restriction. We’re walking into this one with higher expectations. While they can pack a punch for a high price tag, they ended up number six on our list for budgeted gaming, and here’s why:

You’ve got a fantastic 12.5 inch display, which is about the lowest I would pay nearly nine hundred dollars for. A weight of under three pounds, and crisp display, all wrapped up with a five hour thirty minute battery life. The CPU on this outweighs the graphics card. Donning an Intel Core i5-7200U 2.5GHz CPU is all well and good, however, the Intel HD Graphics 620 card doesn’t have enough power to keep up with the high demands of said CPU. In other words, it’s wasted potential.

We love the display resolution on this machine; 2560 x 1440 is nothing to bat an eye at. We all know how much I love backlit keyboards; while extravagant in the color displays, a backlit keyboard is a backlit keyboard. It’s a bit distracting, actually. You also get plenty of ports on this half-an-inch thick laptop, making it versatile. It should be noted that you do not get an RJ-45 ethernet jack on this. Internet privileges run solely off Wi-Fi for the Razer Stealth.

While most seem to have fond reviews of this device, and I’m not saying mine is a bad one, I don’t find it as appealing. Perhaps I’ve been spoiled by testing their higher-end models, but the pros and cons list below is what earned it the number 6 spot on our list.

5. Lenovo Ideapad Y700 80NV0029US-best budget gaming laptop

We’re going to jump right on some of the specs here; the 2.6GHz Intel Core i7-6700 CPU paired with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 GPU is an excellent combination, making for stellar gameplay at lightning fast speeds. You won’t have to worry about lagging or low FPS here. It goes marvelously with the 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage space. I know, your mouth is practically watering, right?

Lenovo makes their laptops look excellent, and while it’s not something we usually touch on in these lists, I’ve had personal experience with their customer service. Their warranty deserves a fine-toothed comb and magnifying glass, and it’s altered depending on device. It can take as much as three weeks to get back from their repair shop. On my previous Lenovo laptop back in 2013, I had to replace three parts in its four year lifespan. It’s something to keep in mind.

I’m heavily in love with the keyboard’s comfortability and the touchpad’s accuracy. It’s got a brilliant blood red backlighting to the keyboard, similar to HP’s Omen series. It definitely holds your attention while the center of each key is lit up in white, so to not overload you with an ominous red glow during late night gaming sessions.

It’s a six pound device; with gaming laptops, we really aren’t surprised at weights anymore. Anything over nine pounds, and we start jotting it down as a negative trait. If you’re a gamer who frequently uses gaming laptops, you’re not expecting them to be as lightweight as an iPad Air, and that’s a good thing.

A 1920 x 1080 display is enough to keep me enticed, but without wowing me. We’re going to give major props to the brightness and color displays, coming in at par with what we believe is the essential experience in a gaming laptop.

4. Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG– best cheap gaming laptop

The most inexpensive model on our list. We’re going for value here, ladies and gentlemen, so we’re getting a little less on the specs than preferred. You’re on a budget; we’ve got the hookup. Acer steals the fourth spot with their Aspire E. Let’s see why:

We don’t get a fancy backlit keyboard, and that makes me sad. However, what can you expect when you’re paying such a great price for a gaming-quality laptop? They have to cut corners, and in this case, it wasn’t in the performance category. We’re going to sacrifice some of the modern, cool features we’re getting used to with advances in gaming laptop technology.

It’s a basic black chassis; nothing special. While the keyboard is comfortable and the touchpad is, well, touchy at best, we can’t help but notice the shoddy construction of the keyboard.

You get a booming 8GB of RAM with a possibility of upgrading to 32GB, which tops the capabilities of others in its class. We don’t get an immense hard drive storage, coming in at 256GB, you have to weight that if having all your games on the same HDD is important to you.

A whopping 15.6 inch display (1920 x 1080) for under six hundred dollars is remarkable, we’ll admit. Running with an Intel Core i5 CPU and Nvidia GeForce 940 MX make this model a true contender amongst practically ever other machine in its price category.

3. Lenovo Legion Y520

I’m going to hop right on the graphics and CPU, because they pack quite a punch with them. We’re looking at a 7^th generation Intel Core Processor and excellent Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card. Together with 8GB of dedicated RAM, you’ve got an excellent device here.

The battery life lacks appeal. Four hours doesn’t give you the best in this class/price bracket, but it’s not as bad as some with under three hours of battery life. How did a laptop with only 2656GB of HDD make it onto number three on our list? You have to play it to get it.

A lot can be said for similar laptops with a generous number of ports and a backlit keyboard, but when you open the Lenovo Legion, you’re immediately immersed. The backlighting brings you in, the feel of the keys and touchpad compliment the chassis exceptionally well. As I always say, you get what you pay for. With the decent weight and reliably fast in-game play, you get all of that and more with the Lenovo Legion.

2. HP Pavilion 15 Notebook

We’re closing down the list with our number two pick: the HP Pavilion 15 Notebook. We’ve got a stellar resolution at 1920 x 1080, brought to life by an Intel HD Graphics 520 graphics card and 8GB of RAM. Top that all off with the 2.3GHz Intel Core i5-5200 CPU, and you’ve got an exceptional machine here for bottom dollar. If you’re looking to game on a budget, this is the laptop for you.

Between colors, brightness and resolution, you get the full package deal with a great gaming experience. While the ratings on these don’t come in at top notch, they’re all within the same tier, complimenting each other instead of appearing unbalanced. If anyone can cram all that down into such a low price point, it’s HP. You can tell me Fire Strike test scores all day long, but in the end, user reviews truly define the success of a laptop model. In this case, we had one of the best times trying this model out.

Between the solid construction of the chassis and familiar framed keyboard that HP is famous for, you get a fantastic feel for a quality device. You get the full size complete with numpad; we do wish it was backlit, but it’s just one of the minor reasons it didn’t make it to number one on the list. Overall, the touchpad is a great quality with little room for inaccuracy.

Structurally, I’m disappointed with the plastic frame around the screen. It feels a bit kiddish, however, it’s no different from the lower grade HP laptop I’m using to write this article. Not surprised, but it’s an improvement they could implement brand-wide.

Audio could do with a bit of an upgrade. You get enough to stream Spotify and Netflix with no notable issues, but there are certain sound effects that come out a bit buzzy during certain gameplay. For instance, the deer early on in Tomb Raider (2013) sounds like an animatronic beast on a Disney Land kids ride.

Last but not least, you get 1TB of storage space. One point that really drove this higher up on the list. 1TB for under $600.00 is remarkable, and we noticed.

1. Acer Aspire VX 15-best gaming laptop under 1000

Honestly, after our reviews, I was surprised to see an Acer model at the top of the list, but here we have it. Coming in at number one is the Aspire VX 15, a true beast of a machine for under a thousand dollars. A standard 16GB of RAM mixed with an i5-7300HQ CPU operating at 2.5GHz stole the spotlight, and for more reasons than just what’s under the hood. It was a close call, Acer, but here we are.

You can get a maximum of 32GB RAM with the capabilities in this gaming-designed laptop. An LED backlit screen supplies a glorious 1920 x 1080 display at 15,6 inches, bringing forth the specs mentioned previously to life. We’ve got some top-notch audio comparable to higher class and higher priced models. With ports abound and a sleek, stylish chassis, we fell in love immediately.

Here’s the kicker—there’s always one, right? We’re only dealing with 256GB of solid state hard drive storage. You knew there had to be a downside. Luckily, removable storage isn’t the hardest fix. External hard drives can be purchased on the cheap, for as much as 2TB of space for as little as $109.99. I’m not condoning the lack of storage space, but with the optimal performance of the VX 15, you can’t fault them for cutting back on something.

Between brightness and the color gamut, your crisp display outdoes the rest of the competition. You’ve got a comfortable keyboard and accurate touchpad. You’ll especially enjoy the red backlit keyboard, highlighting the standard keys in white lettering, and top menu keys in pale blue. Did I mention the WASD lights up extra bright? Ladies and gentlemen, the VS 15!

This one’s a great mix with an equally balanced amount of pros and cons, without having to go over two grand. This gaming laptop has a stellar design; while it’s the all-black chassis of most laptops nowadays, they angle the lines in such a way that makes this an enticing piece, even when it’s sitting closed on the dining room table.

You get all the benefits of the Intel Core i7-6700HQ, quad-core processor. Between the 2.6GHz of the processor, a GeForce GTX 960M graphics card, and 8GB of RAM to play around with, you’ll have excellent performance no matter what game you’re playing.

It comes with 2 8GB RAM cards, with the maximum amount being 32GB if you install the rest yourself. We’re looking at DDR4 SDRAM here, with an underwhelming SSD size of 256GB, but a fantastic HDD size of 1TB; plenty of game storage.

You get a great battery life on the R3. While it isn’t as lengthy as some of the competitors in this article, there’s no denying the longevity of this battery being paramount to your excellent gameplay. Nothing is more aggravating than receiving the “Low Battery” pop-up notification, taking you directly out of full-screen.
