Is Android Go Worth It? Should You Buy Android Go Smartphones?

Android Go is a great initiative by Google for phones with less power and they also promised that the smartphones running Android Go will be much cheaper than other Android smartphones. But its been quite a while since it launched and today we will help you decide that are Android Go smartphones worth it or not.

Why was Android Go Introduced? What’s the Point?

First of all, let’s make it clear that Android Go/ Android Oreo Go Edition is not for everyone it is just a trimmed down version of Android for phones with 1GB of RAM and low spec devices. Last year at the Google I/O event, they clearly stated that many people are still not introduced to smartphones and it’s abilities. The main cause for this was the expenses that a smartphone brings. Offcourse not everyone can afford those premium bezel-less smartphones.

The era where every company is trying to deliver maximum features and make their smartphones look better, here Google is being odd and taking some great steps. With this Google promises that after few years many people will have a smartphone in their hands and they will get to know the power of smartphones, but the question here is, is the promise up to and is Android Go worth it?

Is Android Go Worth It?

Google made over Ten applications for Android Go version which include, Google Go, Google Camera, Google Assistant Go, Youtube Go, Maps Go, Gmail Go, Gboard Go, Google Play Store, Chrome, and Files Go. Google made all of these apps which at a glance look promising but as you dive in you get to know that these are missing various features.

The Apps might be lighter and faster but does not provide some tools which are actually useful. This is a big Con as some apps such as Google assistant does not support voice command for setting reminders and on Youtube Go app you can’t like the video or comment or subscribe and the maximum video quality is just 480p. This is understandable as it saves data, but in reality, the app feels like a cheap video watching app.

Talking about some Android Go smartphones, Micromax launched it’s Bharat Go a few months back, Nokia is also in this market with  Nokia 1 and Lava also released their  Z50 smartphone. But the main problem here is the pricing, Google promised relatively cheap prices for Android Go smartphones but here in India, the prices are just not right.

Almost all the Android Go smartphones available starts at Rs. 4500($69.14) which is still high as smartphones from other manufacturers such as Xiaomi and Tenor are offering a phone with 3GB of RAM for just Rs. 1000-2000 extra.

But other than this, there are also many Pros such as smooth operational stock android on a low spec device, data saving, and a great experience. But all and all there is a mixed feeling about Android Go.

Our verdict is that Android Go is kind of a hit or miss but it’s great for those who never held a smartphone in their hand so that they can get to know what smartphones can do. For people who have already used a smartphone, it is useless but it is advisable for those who will buy them is that just wait for now as the prices are crazy high. In reality, the Android Go smartphones should be priced under Rs. 3000($46.9) then we can say that it is worth it but for now, it is a miss. Stay tuned to Sid Tech for more tech updates.
