e-Learning for kids

We are living in an era where kids learn to use gadgets as early as they start walking. Some of these gadgets offer games, and other recreational stuff which is conducive to a child’s development. And when it comes to education, technology offers pedagogical benefits which can’t be ignored.

Let’s have a look at these benefits:

Personalisation

It is hard to accommodate different types of learners in a classroom who learn the same lesson at different pace. While some seem to grasp grammar structures quickly, others need repetition. This poses a challenge to the teachers who find it difficult to tailor a subject as per individual abilities and learning styles of students. But, with e-learning, students can learn at their own pace and time. This helps in keeping them motivated to learn and also in finding out their strengths and weaknesses.

Interactivity

There are number of ways in which e-learning engages students actively. Blended learning, micro-learning, social learning are all ways through which student engagement improves. For example, if we provide students with real-life scenarios, it will help the learner to actively acquire knowledge as opposed to passively consuming content.

Engagement

Technology can simulate real world experiences with virtual tools like multi-player simulations or role-plays. These methods of teaching are more fun than the traditional ones which means more student engagement.

Today, Tablets have replaced laptops and even notebooks to an extent in schools. They have the advantage of being affordable and handy which makes them more attractive for the kids.

Let’s see some of the benefits of using tablets in schools:

Access to information

Tablets provides instant access to applications which a teacher or student may need for their studies. Students can also use the Internet on their tablets to complete class assignments and homework.

Easy to teach students with different needs

We know that not every student learns the same way…and when we talk about students with disability, they find it all the more difficult to match their peers. Tablets can help students get past this difficulty by providing different forms to teach a subject. Teachers can use e-Learning on tablets to show videos or let their students play games to make it easier for them to understand the material if they are not able to grasp it using a textbook.

Tablets are affordable

Schools are able to save a large amount of money when they switch to tablets with electronic textbooks instead of traditional textbooks. It’s a one time investment unlike textbooks which are replaced with the new ones every year. In tablets, schools only need to add new applications for teaching which are either free or have a minimal cost.

To summarise, we can say that e-learning opens up many new avenues of learning for the students. It encourages them to study in a manner which they like and enjoy. Also, for schools too e-learning is a better way of educating students and remain up-to-date with the modern techniques.
