The 5 Best At-Home Bikes for the Ultimate At-Home Workout

We are shifting focus from our normal electric Bike reviews and news and bringing the electric bikes inside!

If you love cycling but live in a place that’s susceptible to extreme temperatures, buying an Indoor Cycling Bike might be a good decision. Likewise, if you’re trying to lose a few pounds but are gym-shy, an at-home bike might be just the thing to kickstart your weight loss journey. Whether you’re a novice or an expert, this article on the five best indoor cycling bikes will have something for you!

5. Sunny Health & Fitness Belt Drive Indoor Cycling Bike

The Sunny Health and Fitness Indoor Cycle Trainer doesn’t have the name brand recognition as some of the other brands on this list, but what it lacks in recognition it more than makes up for in quality and price.

WHY WE LIKE THIS BIKE: The steel frame is durable and the flywheel gives good resistance. At just around $300, this is well below the price range of most of the bikes on this list but it’s still a quality bike for beginners and even intermediates.

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: It’s not as customizable in terms of dimensions and height and, as you might imagine, it’s heavy as all get-out. The seat isn’t very comfy either, which will turn some riders off.

4. Schwinn Fitness AC Performance Plus Indoor Cycling Bike

Schwinn has been in the bike business for hundreds of years and, as you may know, is one of the biggest household names in analog bicycles. It’s no wonder that they have broken into the stationary cycling game with one of the best spinning bikes for at home use—the Schwinn Fitness AC Performance Plus Indoor Cycling Bike.

WHY WE LIKE THIS BIKE: With the AC Performance Plus, you’re going to get all of the style and substance a bike in its price range commands. It’s comfortable and quiet, with a heavy flywheel for max resistance. These aspects provide riders with an experience as close to the great outdoors as you can get.

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: No console is included, which, for a bike in this price range, is kind of a bummer. Plenty of third-party consoles have been made for the Schwinn but you’re going to have to shell out extra dough for them.

3. Keiser M3i Indoor Cycle

While the other bikes might have all the bells and whistles associated with the current metric-era, the Keiser M3i is a minimalist dream. The quality is in the revolutionary Eddy Current magnetic resistance system, which spent ten years in development. With the system, you get twenty-four gears of lifelike biking allowing you to go from relaxed to punishing all while staying super-quiet.

WHY WE LIKE THIS BIKE: Apart from what we already mentioned, the bike rarely, if ever, requires maintenance. This is all because the moving parts in the drive system don’t touch. When you change gears, the flywheel simply moves around the magnetic field. Also, the wheel mounted in the back keeps sweat out of the gears, which we absolutely love.

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: Very little, but the Keiser boasts a super-light flywheel (eight pounds), which can be a hindrance because of lack of resistance. Obviously, it doesn’t have the built in console like the Peloton and instead has an LCD display, which doesn’t have preprogrammed options or all the built-in metric integration.

2. The Peloton Bike

At this point, it’s kind of moot to discuss the Peloton Bike. You’ve probably seen the commercials during the Super Bowl of the NBA finals so it’s an obvious platitude to report that the Peloton is the name in indoor spinning bicycle. Like the Keiser, the Peloton works on a magnetic system, meaning that it derives its resistance from magnets.

WHY WE LIKE THIS BIKE: It’s the tech that truly makes the Peloton stand out: at 21” and 1080p, the display console is nearly unbeatable. The console boasts built-in speakers, a microphone, a camera and with WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth audio and wireless ANT+ heart rate straps.

The online platform allows users to watch live spin classes, view recorded classes, or even host your own classes. And metrics, metrics, metrics: you can view your metrics, the metrics of your teacher and other students. The platform is not free of course, to the tune of $39 a month.

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: Hard to find any as so much top-flight engineering has gone into the bike but the Peloton is going to set you back a pretty penny. The front-mounted wheel too can be a bit of a problem if you’re a heavy sweater.

 1. Echelon Bike

The Echelon Bike combines everything we love about the Peloton and the Keiser and puts it into a single, sleek package that is great for everyone. Constructed with lightweight quality materials, and designed with the avid cyclist in mind, the bike emits not a whisper as you ride through thirty-two levels of resistance.

WHY WE LIKE THIS BIKE: It’s got the same great display console that let’s you use your own technology (phone or ipad) with its own great platform. With it, you can bike live or with prerecorded rides and, of course, its own killer app with surprisingly stable connectivity (a rarity in connected cycling). It’s also got the back-mounted wheel, which we love, so it’s easy to keep clean and maintain. The Echelon connects to all your smart devices via Bluetooth to monitor your speed, cadence, calories burned, heart rate, and so much more.

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: The Echelon is number one on our list for a reason. For the quality of bike and everything included, even the price can’t be beat.

Figuring out what kind of indoor cycling bike you want to buy is really taking a deep-dive into the self. How often do you see yourself riding and for how long? Is this just a hobby or a total lifestyle change? Answering these questions will undoubtedly lead you to the indoor cycling bike best for you.
