A few weeks ago, one crazy son of a bitch from Dubai graced YouTube with a video of himself performing a Hoverboard Stunt – riding along the edge of a skyscraper. It’s the type of video that instantly makes your palms sweat. Watching this man slowly scoot and shuffle back and forth atop the narrow lip of a massive building creates a visceral reaction in the viewer. You can feel true fear as you gaze down over the edge into the urban abyss below.

While hoverboarding atop a skyscraper’s edge may be an objectively crazy thing to do, it’s not all that surprising. Extreme sports, from skateboarding to BMX, have always attracted adrenaline junkies and it appears as if hoverboarding is no different, although, this video certainly takes things to the next level. After all, while skateboarding and bicycling always involves a risk, the danger normally falls on the spectrum between bruised up and broken bones, not certain death.

What’s important to note is that this video does not exist in a vacuum. It’s inspired by two scenes that have also found their audiences via YouTube – parkour and roof-topping.

Parkour involves freestyle acrobatics and gymnastics performed in a street style similar to skateboarding. See video below:

Roof-topping, on the other hand, involves less finesse and more death wish. Roof-topping is the practice of climbing insanely high structures (or just taking the stairs) and then engaging in various death defying stunts such as walking along the edge of a skyscraper or hanging off buildings or other structures. This insane hobby mostly takes place in Russia and Eastern Europe because… well, there’s no good reason. Russians are just insane daredevils.

If you’ve never watched any roof-topping videos on YouTube, you’re in for a treat. These videos will literally make you scared for your life just watching them. These clips release primal fear inside the viewer unlike anything else I’ve ever watched on YouTube.

So now that you’ve got a little context, you can “understand” how someone got it inside their thick head that riding a hoverboard across the narrow lip of a gigantic skyscraper would be cool hoverboard stunt.

No denying it does makes for one sweet video.
