This is the crux of the story of The Handmaid’s Tale, a best-selling novel, released in 1985. The story of the Handmaid’s Tale has many disturbing incidents which may not be suitable for audiences of all age groups. It is based on the happenings in a Christian fundamentalist government, called Gilead. The totalitarian society has many strict rules and regulations that ought to be followed by its citizens. The world is left with a handful of fertile women who are forced into conscription. They are each assigned to a family in order to have children for the ruling elite.
The main lead of this series is June Osborne alias Offred, is played by Elisabeth Moss. She has acted in many famous movies and TV series including “Escape to Witch Mountain” (1995). Osborne is assigned to the family of Commander Fred Waterford and hence gains the alias “Offred”. She is subject to constant scrutiny by the Waterford family, where she has to bear children for them. Previously, June Osborne was a married woman with a daughter separated from her by a group of men.
