Triangle British-American Business Council Hosting Presentation on Advancing Animal and Human Health

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Triangle/Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the British-American Business Council, along with the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM)  and TiE Carolinas, will host a presentation titled “Global and Innovative Approaches to Animal and Human Health” on October 26 at the CVM. This networking and educational event will begin at 5 p.m. in the Main Building at 1060 William Moore Drive in Raleigh with registration, networking and an optional tour.



The main feature of the evening will be a presentation from three distinguished scientists on advances in animal and human health from the cellular level through entire ecosystems.

David Paul Lunn, BVSc, MS, PhD, MRCVS, Dip. ACVIM
Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine, NC State
Originally from Wales, Dr. Paul Lunn is the dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University, and took up that position on February 20, 2012. Previously he was a professor and the head of the Department of Clinical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. Before moving to Colorado in 2003, Dr. Lunn worked as a large animal medicine faculty member, and as associate dean for clinical affairs and director of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Matthew Breen, PhD, C. Biol, FRSB
Professor, Genomics
Oscar J. Fletcher Distinguished Professor, Comparative Oncology Genetics
Dr. Breen is a professor of genomics and the Oscar J. Fletcher Distinguished Professor of Comparative Oncology Genetics in the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine. He is also a member of the NC State Comparative Medicine Institute (CMI), the Center for Human Health for the Environment (CHHE), the NC State Genetics Program in the College of Science, and the Cancer Genetics Program at the University of North Carolina’s Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Andrew Stringer, BVSc, PhD, MRCVS
Director, Global Health Education, CVM
Director, Global Health Initiatives, NC State
Dr. Andy Stringer joined NC State’s College of Veterinary Medicine in June 2015 as clinical assistant professor in the Department of Population Health and Pathobiology. Dr. Stringer also holds positions as director of Global Health Education (CVM) and director of Global Health Initiatives (NC State). He is the founder and principal investigator of the Health and Livelihoods (HEAL) Group (www.healgroup.org), which studies a range of issues focused on the interface of health and livelihoods in Ethiopia utilizing a One Health approach. Dr. Stringer also holds a position as an honorary lecturer in International Animal Health at the Institute of Infection and Global Health, University of Liverpool.

The main program will last approximately from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., to be followed by a networking reception until 8 p.m.
