Who is likely to win the EPL next season?

Manchester City claimed the 2021/2022 Premier League title on the last day of the season, finishing just one point ahead of Liverpool. This was no surprise, as top casinos list City as the leading contender from the very start of the league.

It was an exciting season with Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea all vying to win the title. During the last four or five games, Manchester and the Merseyside team played it out to the last minute. Done and dusted, the Premier League for 2021/2022 brought joys and disappointments, as in the case of Manchester United. The Red Devils had to change their manager halfway through the season, hoping to shore up their performances and at least finish in one of the four top places. This would have enabled Manchester United to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. They finished fifth with Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspurs representing England in the UEFA Champions League next season.

A Premier League story shared by two legends

The last five Premier League titles have been shared between Manchester City and Liverpool. The team from Manchester managed to win four titles whilst Liverpool managed to win one title after many years. If Manchester City wins next season’s Premier League title, they will be the second club to win three consecutive seasons. The first team to achieve this feat is Manchester United under the leadership of the legendry Sir Alex Ferguson. This achievement has eluded Pep Guardiola’s team on two occasions.

Manchester City had to push their abilities and skills to the peak as Liverpool was hardly going to take the top trophy in English football. To surpass the challenge by Liverpool, Guardiola’s team had to register their third-highest points to push over the Merseyside team. Liverpool is expected to become City’s main rivals for the title again next season.

Under the managership of the German wizard Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool has finished third or higher in each of the last four seasons. During this fantastic run, the club won the Premier League, thus ending a thirty-year losing streak, again being England’s football number one team.

Teams that strive to be at the top

The club from Central London, Chelsea, is seeking to rebuild the team again to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool for the title. It has been six years since the London club managed to win the Premier League. Last season the Blues managed to place third in the table; however, the points gap between Liverpool, who came to the second and third place, was an astonishing eighteen points.

The recruitment of the Italian manager, Antonio Conte, reinvigorated Tottenham. The team finished in fourth place and will participate in the UEFA Champions League next season. The Lilywhites won the top English title in 1961, and Antonio Conte and his lads look forward to next season.

Despite having a brilliant goal-scoring machine, Manchester United failed miserably last season. The club finished in fifth place without getting the pass to participate in Europe’s best competition, the UEFA Champions League. Cristiano Ronaldo managed to secure eighteen goals for his team, but his out-of-this-world endeavours were not enough for his team to finish in one of the four top spots. Ronaldo, who has won the Ballon d’Or five times, is expected to remain at Old Trafford next season. Under the new Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag, the Red Devils are expected to re-group and make strategic changes to the team’s formation to regain the glory they enjoyed.

Like Manchester United, the Gunners from North London face a tall order to revitalise the team to make it strong and competitive enough to give a serious challenge to Manchester City and Liverpool for the title. Arsenal failed to bring UEFA Champions League football to the Emirates Stadium, falling short of the finish line. Under the managership of Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger, these two teams constantly pushed each other for the title. As for next season, it seems they will be outsiders to winning the Premier League title.

It seems that some fans are still recovering from the excitement that last season bestowed on them. The forthcoming season will commence on 6th August, a little earlier than usual, and will end later due to the FIFA World Cup slated for November/December 2022.

Who could win Premier League next season?

With the signing of Erling Haaland to lead Manchester City’s attack for next season, bookmakers are placing City as the favourite to clinch the title. The Citizens will commence their second successful title defence with some relatively easy games without the hassle of facing any of the big six Premier League squads. They play against West Ham, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Nottingham Forest. Gathering maximum points from the first five games will give Manchester City confidence to continue on a winning streak.

Before the Premier League halts for the FIFA World Cup, Manchester City’s games will get a bit harder and tricky to overcome. In fact, the Citizens will have to face Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool in October. On boxing day, they will face Leeds and United, while on the new year, they travel to London to meet the Blues.

Liverpool, who managed to interrupt Manchester City’s consecutive championship titles, won the Premier League in 2020. Unfortunately for the Merseyside club, they finished second twice behind Manchester City in the last five seasons. Liverpool is also very active on the transfer market, and players like Sadio Mane, who left the club, must be adequately replaced. On day one, Jurgen Klopp’s team will face newly-promoted Fulham, which seems to be an easy game on paper. However, they must be respectful towards their opponents to avail any banana slips. Past Fulham, Liverpool will face their eternal rivals Manchester United on day three of the Premier League. In September they will face their “cousins”, the toffee men, and before the month ends, they will have to play against Arsenal, Manchester City, and West Ham.

Under Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea has made enormous strides and played fascinating football. Chelsea strives to make strategic changes to last year’s formation like other teams. Romelu Lukaku and Jorginho are expected to leave the club. Chelsea is also the third top favourite to win the Premier League next season with their financial woes and new ownership. Chelsea’s initial games bring a mixture of easy and challenging games. On opening day, they face Everton, followed by Tottenham Hotspurs, West Ham, Fulham, and Liverpool.

Although Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea are the top favourites to win next season’s English Premier League, one must keep a watchful eye on other established clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspurs. As per previous seasons, the English Premier League for 2022/2023 will undoubtedly bring joys and disappointments but most of all, loads of excitement.
