M.U 0-1 Arsenal – Premier League on March 14, 1998

The first memorable football match to mention was the starting match in February 1998. Arsenal were 12 points behind M.U on the Premier League chart. But a victory at Old Trafford will help the Gunners have many chances to win. In this match, conductor Marc Overmars scored the only goal against Peter Schmeichel, helping the Gunners to narrow the score gap to 6 points, but there were still 3 matches left. At the end of the season, Arsenal were crowned Champions with one point more than M.U. This was Arsenal’s second Championship since 1971.

Arsenal 1-2 M.U – FA Cup semi-finals on April 14, 1999

The FA Cup semi-final in 1999 at Villa Park (this can be considered a replay after the two teams tied 0-0 in the previous match) was extremely fierce and dramatic. David Beckham was the opener of the match for M.U, but Dennis Bergkamp leveled for the Gunners. By the 117th minute, Ryan Giggs had a perfect solo goal, overcoming a series of Arsenal players to secure the victory for the Red Devils. At the end of the season, M.U won the historic treble.

M.U 6-1 Arsenal – Premier League on February 25, 2001

This can be considered the “most humiliating” defeat of Arsenal against M.U up to that time. This victory basically confirmed the seventh Championship in nine consecutive seasons for the Red Devils of Manchester with 16 points more than the chasing team with only 10 rounds remaining in the season. Dwight Yorke scored a hat-trick in the first 22 minutes, Roy Keane and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer added two more goals to help MU win 5-1 before the first half ended (Thierry Henry equalized 1-1 for Arsenal). Teddy Sheringham got the winner in stoppage time of the match.

M.U 0-1 Arsenal – Premier League on May 8, 2002

After winning the British championship in 1971 at White Hart Lane (Tottenham), in 1989 at Anfield (Liverpool), Arsenal marched to Old Trafford in round 37 with the goal of adding “Theatre of Dreams” on the roster of competitions that saw them become champions. 55 minutes into the match, Sylvain Wiltord even helped the Gunners outperform the goal to win by one point, when scoring the only goal to help the Gunners win. This was the second Championship in four years by Arsene Wenger with Arsenal and also helped the Gunners set an unbeaten away record in the whole season. Meanwhile, M.U also had a poor season when he only finished third in the standings.

Arsenal 2-2 M.U – Premier League April 16, 2003

Before marching to Highbury, Sir Alex’s army were still three points ahead of Arsenal in the standings. In this match, Ruud Van Nistelrooy opened the deadlock at the beginning of the first half before Thierry Henry had a double to help Arsenal come up the lead. However, unfortunately the Gunners dropped the victory when Ryan Giggs fixed the score at 2-2 at the time when midfielder Sol Campell received a red card to leave the field. At the end of the season, M.U won the championship with five points more than Arsenal.

Ruud van Nistelrooy opened the scoring of the match

M.U 0-0 Arsenal – Premier League on September 21, 2003

Although there were no goals, this was the most memorable match in the history of the confrontation between the two teams because of its tense nature. Eight yellow cards and a red card for Vieira were drawn by the referee, and the important highlight is the failure of Ruud van Nistelrooy in the final minutes of the match (the third consecutive time the Dutch striker failed to eat). Arsenal players, especially Martin Keown, have harsh words and actions against the Dutch striker. This is also the 8th unbeaten match in Arsenal’s 49 unbeaten series.

M.U 2-0 Arsenal – Premier League on October 24, 2004

This is the match that ended Arsenal’s 49 consecutive unbeaten streak. However, there was controversy after the situation where referee Mike Riley gave M.U a penalty and van Nistelrooy succeeded. This led to the legend “Pizza gate”. At the end of the season, neither MU nor Arsenal won the championship, but instead was Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.

M.U 0-0 Arsenal – FA Cup Final on May 21, 2005 (Arsenal won 5-4 in penalty shootout)

This is the first time Sir Alex and Arsene Wenger have faced each other in an FA Cup Final in nearly a decade. However, the match at Cardiff was not as exciting as expected when no goals were scored. Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy missed many chances, while Arsenal played stubbornly in the 10th against 11 after Reyes got a red card. At the end of 120 minutes, the two teams entered the penalty series, and Jens Lehmann excellently blocked Paul Scholes’s free-kick to help the Gunners win 5-4.

Arsenal 1-3 M.U – Champions League semi-final return match on 05/05/2009

Ronaldo made a double to help M.U win

M.U is determined to defend the Champions League championship that he had in 2008, while Arsenal also expressed their ambition to reach the 2nd Final in 4 years (losing to Barca in the 2006 Final). In the first leg, Arsenal lost 0-1 at Old Trafford, a fragile score and Arsenal fans expect the players to make a surprise. However, Park Ji-Sung’s goal and Ronaldo’s brace overwhelmed the Gunners ‘ambitions at Emirates’ home field before Van Persie had an honorable goal in the final minutes of the match. In the final, M.U lost 0-2 to Barca at the Olimpico Stadium of AS Roma.

M.U 8-2 Arsenal – Premier League on 28/08/2011

Arsenal’s worst defeat since 1896. The gunner suffered a force crisis due to injury and the departure of pillars (Cesc Fabregas and Sami Nasri) caused them to be submerged mercilessly in the first rounds. Rooney scored a hat-trick, Ashley Young got a double, while Danny Welbeck, Nani and Park Ji-Sung each contributed 1 goal. On the opposite side of the field, Theo Walcott and Van Persie are the honor scorers for Arsenal. At the end of the season, M.U was surpassed by Man City to win the championship, while Arsenal finished third.
