Look: Gareth Bale Officially Makes Golf Debut At $9M Tournament

Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order.

Gareth Bale famously celebrated with his teammates after Wales qualified for the Euro 2020 with a Welsh flag that read this statement.

The five times Champions League winner for the Los Blancos made a career statement with that flag despite having criticisms from the fans. Having retired from professional football at 33 years, Gareth Bale is all set to showcase his Golf talent.

The Welsh International nicknamed “Golfer” by his fellow Real Madrid Goal Keeper Thibaut Courtois confirmed on his official Instagram page that he will play at the PGA Tour golf event.

Bale will take part in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, one of the most internationally recognized stops on the PGA tour. The tournament comes with a hefty prize money of $9M.

The tournament which happens between Feb 2-5 features 156 celebrities and the media already believes that the Real Madrid legend is the 10th best player among all.

Bale is listed as having a handicap of two and is paired along with the American Professional Golfer Joseph Bramlet for the first three rounds in California.

Bale Makes Golf debut

Heap of Praise for Golfing abilities

It was really cool. First time I’ve officially met him. So that was obviously good to see him. Really, really enjoyed it. Asking him questions about football and he’s asking questions about golf and stuff. We had a really enjoyable front nine and there’s not many better places to do it than around here.

The US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick is already in high praise about Bale’s golfing abilities ahead of the Welsh’s debut on the PGA Tour.

The Spanish International and the World number three golfer Jon Rahm was also among the elite golfers amazed by the ex-Tottenham and Real Madrid Winger.

I told Gareth, you can’t be so good at professional football and golf at the same time, it just doesn’t seem fair,” Rahm said. “Can’t be dedicated to one thing and have this much talent for golf, it’s not fair in the slightest

Jon Rahm commented after he played nine holes with Bale at Torrey Pines.

Gareth Bale who owns a 3-hole course in the backyard of his house has always showcased his love for the game. In his much-discussed return to Spurs on a loan deal, the Welsh Wonder was seen celebrating his hat-trick against Sheffield United with a golf celebration with fellow Spurs player Dele Alli.

But in his 9-year span career for Los Blancos, Bale has already been criticized immensely for his love for alternate sports. The then Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane was furious with Gareth Bale for playing Golf a few days after being injured at play in Getafe. But Bale feels otherwise.

Golf is a hobby like anyone else would have a hobby. There is nothing wrong with having a round. People make a lot of it but a lot of footballers play it and it’s one thing I really enjoy. It keeps me calmer off the pitch and gives me time away from football, which is nice

With all these high praises coming from the top guns of the game, the audience is keen to watch how Bale performs in such a high level of competition.
