This will be Appalachian State’s first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2000 and third appearance in school history. They come into the NCAA tournament as a No. 16 seed and will face fellow 16th-seeded Norfolk State on Thursday in Indiana in the First Four play-in game. They got into March Madness by finishing 7th out of 12 teams in the Sun Belt Conference during the regular season but winning the conference tournament. The winner will get the No. 1 overall seed Gonzaga (26-0) on Saturday.

After winning the MEAC Tournament Championship on Saturday, the Norfolk State Spartans will be fighting for that chance to play favorites Gonzaga. Guard Joe Bryant Jr. scored 47 points in the last two games and was named the MEAC Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Playing along fellow guard Devante Carter, who averaged 15.5 points per game during the regular season, they are not to be taken lightly.
