The Leafs continue to plow through their season of disappointed among enormous noise from Leafs Nation and the main stream media. The coach, general manager, players, and entire plan is now in question as the Leafs face an uphill battle to not just compete in the playoffs, but to reach the post season at all.
In order to hit a respectable 100pts (it took 98pts to reach the playoffs in the East last season) they will have to earn 78pts in 60 games from here on out. Over a full season that would equate to 106pts. This already seems like a tough hill to climb, even more so when you consider the last calendar year.
I will continue to track this arbitrary group of games that began on November 13th against the Islanders and will end on December 17th against the Sabers. The reason I picked this group of games as being significant is that they are overwhelmingly against teams that are in the playoffs, or teams that are very close to the Leafs in the standings. It’s my belief that if they don’t come out of this stretch in a good spot in the standings it could mean the end of Mike Babcocks time in Toronto as their head coach.
So far they are 0-3-0, and that brings their record against playoff teams this year to 3-8-3. Ouch.
Pierre Engvall makes his Nhl Debut Tonight. Lets hope he does well as the lineup could use someone of his size added in.
